Default Panday has lost its edge

    Has Panday lost its magic?

The long overdue Panday finally premiered last Wednesday to a disappointing 28.9 percent. Well, it wasn’t really that bad until you see the figures of Encantadia, which was 37 percent and Sugo, which earned 29 rating points. Even the Korean epic drama Jewel in the Palace rated just seven tenth of a point behind Panday.

The ratings, by the way, were from unofficial overnight ratings we got from an independent source.

It must have been heartbreaking for the guys over on Mother Ignacia Avenue to see how an expensive project like Panday fails to even make a dent on the competitor’s ratings. Has the magic of Panday totally vanished with the death of the Fernando Poe Jr.? To every Filipino who has grown up and old with the big screen’s most popular folk hero, there’s really no one who can breathe life to the character created by komiks illustrator Carlo J. Caparas than FPJ.

We took a look at the premiere episode and our jaws dropped upon seeing an overweight Phillip Salvador pretending to be Panday fighting the evil forces of Lizardo, played by Victor Neri. Later we learned that a vagrant guy played by Jericho Rosales was simply reliving along with a young boy Panday’s story, thanks to a komiks magazine.

What is missing in Panday that it failed to take the viewers’ attention off Encantadia?

Is Jericho Rosales not big an actor to really make the series a television event? Is Panday an old tale for a lot of people they’d rather watch four sisters trying to keep the gems from getting into the hands of an evil man?

We will continue to monitor the progress (or will it be regress?) of Panday in the very tight competition for audience share in the primetime block. As it is, Kampanerang Kuba has conceded defeat. Vietnam Rose is a hopeless case and Pinoy Big Brother is hardly making a grade now that Jewel in the Palace has eclipsed its novelty.

Now, wake up ABS-CBN! The race has gotten tighter with QTV-11 joining the fray.

True, there are some writers that cannot remain objective since they do get paid by networks(in this case, GMA-7) to write smear campaigns against their competition.

I, for one, do not watch Encatadia because again the story is NOT GOOD! ... though I have to say this-- some of the costumes featured in Encatadia are very commendable in their design!

Now as for Panday... what the?! They gave away the entire plot of the resurrection of the bad guy through CG animation?! Drat! And it isn't good computer animation pa! Why oh why do they waste such money?! Why oh why do they give away the story?! Now there are no more suprises to shock the audiences or is there?!

Sana there is a way to give the people behind the series a heads-up but apparently there is no use because they've just finished filming the entire series--

I'm giving up this, those who want to watch it, you could catch every night at 9 pm.

So far, feeble pa kaau ang Panday.. sayang lang ila gasto sa production ana. Poor effects.
But i think no other actor can play the role better than Jericho. It fits him (para lang nako ha..). And i think ok raman si Heart as Eden. Cute man siya.

.. Ako ganahan kay ila themesong!! unsa title ato? Makita Kang Muli? tsakto? basta, very nice song!!
