the disappointment was it did not focused more on the life of the geisha , it should have stick with whats in the book. geisha are historical figures, they should have stick with what a geisha truly are..
in GENERAL, the book did not focus on the life of THE geisha but on the life of A PARTICULAR geisha named Nitta Sayuri...so the love story was more emphasized and the struggles that the aspiring Sayuri goes through to become one of Japan's famous geisha..

have it been focused on the life of the geisha(s), or the beautiful place of kyoto...that would be documentary type of movie na cguro

i haven't read the book either but having seen the movie over the weekend, i already have a "little" idea about what the word "geisha" meant. just my opinion, i think it was kinda boring and a little bit weird. but because of the movie, i had a glimpse about what a geisha's life was about in the late 1920's in Japan 'til the war. re the "boring" comment, most of the movies i found "boring" the time i saw them became either Oscar nominated or Oscar winners. so don't hold this post against me..

i agree with klavel. it would be pretty hard to make a film that could capture the life of the geisha. the book was more love story too. the things we found out about geishas in the book that we didn't know before are bonuses. but it doesn't tell all.

since i have never been to Kyoto, i imagine i'd still love how they made Kyoto in the film. hehe.

i've read the book. its focuses on sayuri's experiences and eventually her love with that influential man and the later part deals with world war II. i've read bad reviews about the movie. it's like 50/50 for the critics, meaning the movie isn't well received. still gonna watch it anyway.

    just watched the movie.

    Its soo nice.

I have always thought that geisha's are protistutes. Its a really nice movie.
Zhang Zi-Yi were really convincing. She gave justice to her role plus the story is really nice.
    Its as good as advertised.

Perhaps, I wanna see the girl from the movie "The Last Samurai" who portrayed "Taka".
I wanna see her play the geisha role. Just a wishfull thinking.hehe.

looking forward to watching the movie myself.
i have read one of my online friend's review of the movie, she said its nice daw pero wala daw cya nadala sa emotion sa movie. must it be the acting of the actors? she said the setting, costume, dances & movements etc. were fascinating. but for her it was a movie na makalimtan ra daw nimy after a day or two. dili mu tatak gyud ba. well thats her opinion. im going to post mine as soon as i get to watch it.

naai difference sa book og sa movie? im not a reader although my bestfriend said na the book is really nice gyud daw.. also my older sister.. so if im going to watch the movie, im clueless gyud of the story and how the character evolves.. i saw the trailer, nice cya.
