It depends on what you want to achieve. Range could be 5 k to 15 k depending on your materials and projected output. For starters-learners, 10 k would be reasonable. If you have a family and want to start saving on food, it would be about 50 k. Savings would be about 2 to 3 K per month.

Latest buzz on bee decline: Maybe it's pesticides - Yahoo! News

Poor honey bees, another casualty as part of the collateral damage brought by “innovation” to kill the pest and consequently produce another "kind of pest" or bacteria, with stronger anti-pesticide capabilities. We can never win against nature. Destroying our natural food source for natural anti-biotics and other natural medicinal cures that strengthen the immune system and boost energy - honey.

Default Storm or no Storm - Business as Usual by God's grace

    Storm-Affected Fishermen Receive Fingerlings

Aquaponics – an alternative solution to food production process and can address storm related disasters, such that damage on food supply can be reduced or minimized, or really protected. In the US the production facility is inside a warehouse – thus, extreme heat or cold (except perhaps tornadoes and hurricane) it would be business as usual. We are very very fortunate and blessed that we don’t have the kind of issues they have in the US, we should be very grateful and use this to our advantage. Many things in our lives we take for granted but the grace and blessings we think are quite ordinary and common place are often forgotten. We have a truly rich country.
OFW's in the middle east, get the chance to introduce this technology to your sponsors and tell them that the middle east can be truly self-sustainable. No need to depend on other countries to provide and import their food. This is the time to set up the systems so they can start while they producing while they still have the oil to spend on all those glamourous things but will not help them when famine or war comes.

Researchers Find Evidence of Banned Antibiotics

I do hope this is not happening to our food products in the Philippines. I hope that our BFAD are doing their part to protect us. The wise learn from the others, the fool learns from himself. For me, let us not make ourselves as the fool being used by “wise” to learn from the consequence of what “wise” will do to others before the “wise” does it to himself.

Scary indeed to know what goes into our food and all the consequences it would bring-allergies, etc., (benefits those in the health care industry). If these can happen in the US what more to us in the Philippines, so help us God.

Default Take control of your health, your future and create food security

Take a moment of your time to invest on your health, your greatest asset and be in control of your future. No matter how much money you have you can lose it all due to ill health. Many take the time to clean and maintain their cars make it shine. Your body is just as important and don't leave it to others to entice you what to eat. Find the right fuel for your "car", find the right "oil" for your car. Find the right "lubricant" for your car. Find the right "fluid" for your car. Likewise and most importantly find the right food for your "body".

Do You Have Any Idea of the Chemicals Used in Fast Food Chicken

Extremely “creative cooking” of chicken – Forewarned is forearmed. For our 4.5 Million poor Filipinos, they don’t have to worry about eating this kind of “chicken”, to be poor is not that bad perhaps.

    Default Vertical Farming

Vertical Farming--- The Advantages and Disadvantages
    Vertical Farming.
Preparing for the future. Food is produced where the consumers are. Forward thinking and planning should lead us in this direction. The designs of the future should already consider this in their concepts that will lead to easy adaptation and "interconnectability". ( Sort of Cable Ready or the use of Structured Cabling in High Rise Buildings) The principles introduced in the above topic does not consider the "concept of aquaponics" where we recycle fish waste and use it to produce organic, nutritious food. There are now available technologies able to respond to temperature and environmental constraints thus making plant production grow side by side close to the consumers.
Water recycling, energy savings due to reduced fuel cost in production food. The need to transport vegetables and fish from distant provinces can be reduced. Calamities, storms can be addressed providing food security and stable prices for food readily close to the consumer.
Our planners should already take into consideration this possibility and make their design adaptable to such an environment - really creating a Green Environment.

Yes, Yes, Yes, Good Question !

In fact, you can have your own special size and design, especially if you want to combine the concept with landscaping, so your growbed may look like natural stones from the outside and your fishtank may look like a pond and your bio-filters-aerators may look like a waterfalls or fountain, taking the monotony out of the traditional boxes. Only your imagination is the limit. This can be the future of our eco-tourism and applied to restaurants, gardens where they have a "natural environment" look that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing to the eyes and relaxing to the mind and body with the therapeutic effect of the sound of the water flowing. These are engineered applications.

    Default Food packaging ?

If food source can be an issue then comes food packaging and their “secret ingredients” seems to be an added complication to our daily lives. If this happens in the US, what about us in the Philippines? My query is how safe are we in the Philippines? When can we be truly safe and feel protected in our beloved country?

FDA Says It Will Deny Request to Ban BPA

People put a lot of effort in maintaining their car through proper maintenance, right, oil, fuel, air, water etc., we should do so for our body and not only what we feed but now also the packaging!!! Where does this end?

Default Natural Food and Natural Remedies -

I hope someday we can make or produce this “natural food” instead of buying them in “packages”. We may not know now how to do it and make it sustainable, but surely we have bright guys out there just waiting to tell us how do it right. We are not endorsing the product but wish to inform perhaps how we can make or start the "idea of producing" the product naturally and sustainably.
