I don't think Atheism works that way.

Atheists do not hope that science explains everything. Atheists just do not claim to know or "believe" in something until it can be proven.

I think you took my opinion about religion being a coping mechanism way too seriously, but in so doing I am enlightened, so thank you for the figures.

But since it is impossible to "exterminate" religion, I still stand by my belief that it religion and intellect can exist harmoniously in a populace, no matter how ideal it may sound (a bit hypocritical, because it doesn't even apply to me).

Atheists simply do not believe in something until it can be Observed, Tested, Verified and is rational whether it is God, Santa Claus, The Pink Unicorn or the Flying Spaghetti Monster... etc etc.
