'Spammers' should be registered - Enrile

MANILA, Philippines - Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile today insisted that "spammers" in text messaging should be registered especially if they are engaged in business or services.

In a radio interview, Enrile said these spam messages have caused much inconvenience to the users and subscribers of prepaid SIM cards.

"That person can cause disinformation with a single push of a button that will send [a message] to several SIM cards. That person can also cause a revolution," Enrile said of the issue of spamming in relation to the Senate hearings on issues invovling prepaid load.

He said "spammers" should be registered and identified by telecommunications firms as they already invade a person's privacy.

"They have already invaded the privacy of people and you are overloaded with their [text] messages," the Senate chief said. Enrile added that he would be forced to subpoena records of telecommunications firms should they refuse to identify "spammers."
