havnt attended the seminar. tried to contact sister claire for info re the next seminar but it seems shes not available all the time.
in our experience, we never shoot closeups during the ceremony except the part when they put on the rings. most of the other parts can very well be shot from a distance. an 18-125, 17-200, 24-70, 17-70 - most mid range, fast to normal zooms can do well inside church weddings without going near the altar. a good flash or remote can also help. weve shot so many nice captures during the ceremony with just a 10-20 and an 18-125
the church has been continiously reminding wedding "productions" to also respect the sanctitiy of the altar - which is hallowed ground already. these include not treading inside or runing back-and-forth in and on the altar platform to get the shots - which i used to do(actually the video guys are more of the target for these rules as they need to always get close to the couple and the manong ambush photographers who always gatecrash on weddings and try to get everybodys portrait - i always wondered why on earth would i like a my own portrait taken from somebody elses wedding?). we had an out of town shot once wherein the video lights fell and hit the bishop! and another story that a photographer slid right at the front of the altar and everybody!
the most memorable and dramatic wedding shots are not always from the ceremony. so it really helps to plan your compositions ahead and not be bothered with llimitations.
