    Default cebu tour itinerary

heres little tour itinerary for anyone who'd want to go around cebu but dont know where to start...i made this for a school project, and i got my inspiration mainly from the suroy-suroy sugbo--although i wrote the itinerary and planned the route myself...

feel free to post your own tour itineraries too, who knows, we might be doing tourists (and potential tourists) a lot of help...

CEBU, An Island in The Pacific

Proposed Itinerary for a 1-day tour of Metropolitan Cebu and its environs (Southern Heritage Towns):

meet-up at Cebu Normal University at around 6am, tour begins at exactly 7:30am. Travel to ‘old cebu’ via Sikatuna st. passing by the so-called Pari-an area, optional stop-over at the Heritage of Cebu Monument and to check out the adjacent fire-station and the nearby old Aglipayan church. Then continue on towards the Metropolitan Cathedral, seat of the Archdiocese of Villa Santissimo Nombre De Jesus (official name of the Archdiocese of Cebu), while passing by the Colon Obelisk–marks the oldest street in the country–optional stop at nearby cathedral for picture taking and visit the Archdiocesan Museum, before proceeding to Basilica Minore del Santo Niño, the world’s smallest basilica, and home of the country’s oldest religious relic, the image of the Sto. Niño. Explore the adjacent Magellan’s Cross and the Cebu City Hall (currently undergoing renovation). Then proceed to the centuries-old Fort San Pedro–the oldest, smallest, and only tri-bastion fort in the country–within Plaza Independencia; do check-out the Augustinian-Recollect Marker, the post-office, and the Malacañan sa Sugbo (formerly the Aduana building.) Then move on to the Casa Gorrordo, former residence of the Bishop of Cebu, before heading back to the Colon Obelisk and travelling along the street, passing by various historical places such as the University of the Visayas, Cebu’s first university; sites of former residences of affluent Cebuano clans; Oriente Cinema; and Vision Cinema, among others, all part of the former business district of Colonial Cebu. After which, head up Osmeña Boulevard, passing by Cebu Normal University once more, SWU Museum (Optional, contains treasures from pre-colonial Cebu and Rizal memorabilia), Bradford church, Fuente Towers–-the tallest buildings outside Metro Manila–, Fuente Osmeña–Cebu’s famous rotunda–and all the way to the stately Cebu Provincial Capitol, the oldest, and arguably the most beautiful in the country. After an optional stop at the Capitol Grounds for picture taking, go uphill via the Boy Scout Camp Road (Opra) and visit the Cave Shrine of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de Cebu, patroness of the city and province of Cebu (Optional); and then enter the plush Beverly Hills Subdivision to visit the famous Taoist Temple for a great panorama of the city (second only to the view at the Tops) and a taste of Chinese culture. Then head down via the Doña Gaisano Road, to Lahug, making an optional stop at the office of the Department of Tourism, before heading down to Mandaue City for an optional visit to the National Shrine of St. Joseph, home to the 300-yr old life-sized diorama of the Last Supper. Cross the Marcelo Fernan Bridge–record holder for having the longest center-span among cable-stayed bridges in the world–towards MEPZ-1, undoubtably one of Cebu’s income drawers, passing by the runway of the Mactan Cebu International Airport, and then stopping at the Lapu-Lapu Shrine and Magellan Marker for lunch.
    END OF PART ONE

1:30pm, leave for Opon to visit the Church of Nuestra Señora de Regla, after which the group will have the option to take the Shuttle Ferry from Muelle de Osmeña (transportation can go ahead to pier 2) for a scenic cruise of Cebu Harbour, or could take the Old Mactan-Mandaue Bridge, passing by the symbol of Mandaue City, the Bantayanan sa Hari (King’s Watchtower) and then could either stop by San Miguel Breweries for an optional visit, or drive-by the site of the future ASEAN Summit venue, the CICC, before heading straight towards the Cebu South Road Properties, where the group would take the South Coastal Highway straight towards Minglanilla (with optional stop at the Sugbu Building, future site of the Cebu Themepark, Senior Citizen’s Park, and the Liberty Statue-sized Sto. Niño; and with an optional detour towards Poblacion Talisay with it’s Liberation Park and the Church of St. Teresa of Avila) then heading towards the heritage town of Carcar (with optional stops at the Gothic-inspired Minglanilla Church, Naga Church–with it’s unique baroque architecture–, Shrine of San Vicente de Ferrer at Pitalo, and Theotokos Shrine at Perrelos Carcar–site of the ‘dancing sun’ phenomenon.) Arriving at Carcar, the group would first proceed towards the Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria, known for its Moorish architecture and statues of the twelve apostles; and then proceed to visit the antique houses, including the famous Balay na Tisa. The group could then scour the market for refreshments and souvenirs, then take pictures of Carcar’s historic rotunda–the meeting/separation place of Cebuano’s from the south on days past when they would go and visit Cebu City for the festivities–before going further south towards the town of Argao (with optional detour at Lindogon Shrine in Sibonga) to visit the Shrine-Church of the Archangel Michael. Optional visits at Argao Hall of Justice–former school of Hilario Davide–and the old houses of the town. Dinner at the beach. Head back to Cebu City, tour ends at Cebu Normal University.
    END OF TOUR

A modified version of the tour would begin at the Cebu Normal University, then heading straight towards the Southern towns (including an additional optional stop at Pardo Church), lunch at Argao, then head back to Cebu City via SRP to begin city tour, and dinner at any Mactan resort, with optional overnight stay.

    Proposed Northern Exposure tour

includes part one of Southern Heritage Tour (City Tour) then head straight towards town of Lilo-An to visit Lilo-An Church (Church of (Sts.) King Ferdinand of Aragon (Spain) and Queen Isabella of Castille) then visit the American-period lighthouse at Tayud, within the Amara subdivision complex. Then head towards Danao City (with optional stops at Compostela town and Q-Park in Compostela to visit larger than life-size stations of the cross and Cebu Hall of Heroes) visit the church of sto. Tomas de Villanueva at Danao City, and then take time to explore the city. Afterwards, head towards Bogo Town in the far north (With optional stops at Carmen Town–with Nature’s Spring Plant and Benedictine Monastery; Catmon Town–with it’s hilltop church with adjacent watchtower; and Sogod Town) after driving through vast expanses of farmlands, the group would then visit the Bogo Shrine before entering the town proper to visit the Church of San Vicente de Ferrer. The group could then choose to visit nearby San Remegio Town and continue as far as Medellin and DaanBantayan Towns, or decide to explore Bogo Town. It is highly possible that the group would stay overnight at Bogo.

Another option, albeit a bit more expensive, is to visit the Island of Bantayn (Ferry to Bantayan Php 100-120 one way; Roomrates Php 700-1000 up, one night exclusive of food; Jeepney Rental Php 1000 up, exclusive of Fuel) upon arrival at Sta. Fe Town, the group should check-in at any resort and make arrangements for transportation. After which, the group could then visit Ogtong Cave and Resort in Sta. Fe, and then proceed to the Town of Bantayan, to visit the centuries-old Church of Sts. Peter and Paul–the oldest church in the Visayas and Mindanao, even older than the Sto. Niño Church. After exploring the town, the group should then head out towards Madridejos Town to check out it’s Boardwalk, before returning to the resort in Sta. Fe to rest for the night. Departure back to the mainland would be on the afternoon of the next day.

Still another option would be that instead of going to Bogo Town, the group could opt to take the Sogod-Tabuelan Road into Tabuelan Town at the western coast of Cebu, here the group could then travel south towards the towns of Tuburan, Asturias, Balamban, and the City of Toledo. The group could have the option of staying overnight at Toledo, or return to the city via the Marcos Road (Toledo-Naga Road) or the Cebu Trans-Central Highway, where the group could opt to visit the Island in The Sky or the Tops for truly breath-taking nighttime panoramas of Cebu City and its environs.
