we have a guide, or a ornithologist friend

with "bird photography" alone, it could be captive so you actually don't need a tripod nor a expensive long lens, you could just use a 50mm. But when we're talking about WILD bird photography, that's the time you'll be needing those expensive gear.

" Cisticolas (pronounced sis-TIC-olas) are a genus of very small insectivorous birds formerly classified in the Old World warbler family Sylviidae, but now usually considered to be in the separate family Cisticolidae, along with other southern warbler genera. They are believed to be quite closely related to the swallows and martins, the bulbuls and the white-eyes. The genus contains about 45 species, of which only two are not found in Africa: one in Madagascar and the other from Asia to Australasia. "

I think you can live without a tripod if you are strong enough or use a light setup... hehe... As for the names, we ask the experts or refer to a guide.

BeoR, Ah! I thought I was the only one who doesn't know Photoshop. I am in good company then! I think to improve further I also need to learn Photoshop.

If you want to be a great bird photographer you must learn the stalking/fieldcraft of a hunter. You need to learn how to spot the bird and get as close as 20feet/6meters. It is easier than you would think. All you need is the help of a hunter.

After you have mastered this skill then bird photography just becomes a matter of how much time you are willing to put into it and how far you are willing to travel.

The most accomplished bird photogs I know spend 5 days out of the week birding. While the least accomplished do bird photography once every 3 months.

Like anything you improve with practice.
