‘Tayong Dalawa’ Tops Mega Manila, ABS-CBN’s First in Years

For the first time in years, an ABS-CBN drama series topped the AGB Nielsen primetime race in Mega Manila. The date: March 11, 2009. The show: Tayong Dalawa.

Mega Manila has always been GMA’s turf and an ABS-CBN show to be no. 1 in an AGB Nielsen survey is already an incredible feat. Not to mention that the last time an ABS-CBN program topped the primetime race in Mega Manila was years ago. Perhaps it was Marina? I’m not sure though.

In an exciting turn of events, Tayong Dalawa starring Gerald Anderson, Kim Chiu and Jake Cuenca scored 32% (Thanks to the 26.4% low rating of All About Eve) last Wednesday to be no. 1 primetime program beating erstwhile leader Totoy Bato.

Placing second is another ABS-CBN show, I Love Betty La Fea, with 29.1 percent. Totoy Bato settled for 3rd with 29 percent.

Another kapamilya program penetrated the Top 5. Nationwide leader May Bukas Pa placed 4th with 28.9 percent.

Although the next day, Totoy Bato reclaimed the no. 1 position, what happened last March 11 is a sign that ABS-CBN is slowly taking the Mega Manila televiewers. And GMA should not rest on their laurels and strive harder to maintain their leadership in the coveted region.

Since All About Eve could be the culprit for the sudden downfall, GMA should change its timeslot and set the new shows in advance. Zorro and Rosalinda, pasok!
