Venue set for Asean conference
THE Cebu International Convention Center in Mandaue City will be ready by Dec. 6, when the ministerial meetings of the 12th Asean Summit opens, the Department of Foreign Affairs said yesterday.
Foreign Affairs spokesman Ed Malaya said Ambassador Marciano Paynor Jr., secretary general of the summit’s National Organizing Committee, told him the news.
“Yes, it will be ready by then,” Malaya quoted Paynor as saying.
Paynor’s assurance came four days after Asean spokesman and Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Victoriano Lecaros announced that construction of the P500-million center, started in April, was 95-percent complete.
The venue is to host most of the meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. It was officially turned over to Malacañang on Friday.
Paynor said the center’s function rooms, including the International Media Center, were now under the National Organizing Committee.
He said Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal would inaugurate the building on Dec. 8, two days before the opening of the Leaders’ Summit attended by 16 heads of state.
The building originally was designed as a sports-themed “megadome,” but it was transformed into a convention center after officials chose Cebu as host of the 12th Asean Summit barely a year ago.
The leaders of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam are converging in Cebu City to discuss issues such as trade, investments, security and terrorism.
Paynor said other meetings would be held at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa and at the Waterfront Hotel.

The upcoming ASEAN Summit will certainly provide us more avenues to promote and encourage investments form our foreign counterparts.
Hopefully, we'll improve our economic relations with the other member countries, as well as Japan and China with the upcoming summit. From what I've read, the ASEAN Summit will focus on improving economic relations of the member countries in line with the ASEAN 2020 vision.

obviously sumagandahay is not grasping the idea of PEAK and OFF PEAK... Even cellphone rates are based on them...
SUPPLY AND DEMAND means that a hotel will revise their rates based on the hotels HISTORY and FORECAST for a given date, at the given area of business... if they know that there will be 1000 people wanting to get into their 500 rooms, then they will jack up the price for that period, but if there are only 30 people forecasted to arrive and need rooms, then they will dive their prices in order to attract more business...
But this is not the only factor that affects the rates, I'm afraid that if i start lecturing about the correlation between Average Room Rates (ARR), Revenue per Available Room (REVPAR), and Market Penetration Index (MPI), that we would lose you altogether to a brain hemorrhage...
