The Reader

Sun creeps under the eaves,
And shines on the bare floor
While he forgets the earth.

Cool ashes on the hearth,
And all so still save for
The soft turning of leaves.

A creature fresh from birth
Clings to the screen door,
Heaving damp heavy wings.

Love is a constant
Like the speed of light,
Unbroken spectrum
Of the purest white,
Rainbow unbroken
In the beam of light.

Love is an anguish
That, gathering at the root,
Rises in sap along the rugged branch,
Pulsing in sunlight,
To lose itself in fruit,
To break in fragrance
Above the sunny ground,
Like wine in autumn,
Like insect wings unbound,
Like wings of gauze and rainbow.

You lay still on your bed, under the covers…
Tick Tock Tick Tock..
Counting the seconds of life …
Finding yourself counting each breath you take…
Something moved… you turned and looked to your side
Ahhh, it was your other half…
You stared for a while, wondering what you were doing…
And why was he there…
Your heart skipped a beat…
Alas!! An answer… T’was because you loved him
Or.. was it because he loves you??
However and What ever it is… ITS LOVE.
You turned your gaze towards the ceiling
Breath… Breath… Breath…
You’re still alive, but something must be wrong..
Think Think Think…. Zoned out into nothing
All is going well for you…
Chaotic as your days may seem
When you come home, all is well
Why?… you asked… Why??
Amidst all the chaos,
Amidst all the drama
Amidst all the emotion…
Each Night you encounter yourself..
Amidst all of everything…
There it is…
You Close your eyes…
Straining to listen to it…
At first you see a light.. a distant and tiny flicker
Then you drift away
Then there was a voice
A loud but soft voice… scary but comforting…
"Shushhhh" it says.. every night….
"Lay your head down"… it says every night….
Then you drift again…
Slowly succumbing into a swing of oblivion…..
Slumber… comfort… but another life…
Rest… for the night… till the next morning.
First drop of light.. you wake up
Deep Breath… yes.. you are still alive..
Chaos, Drama, Emotion…. Another Day…
In the midst of it all.. There He was…
