IT’S just hours before the greatest sporting spectacle of the world opens today – and no, it’s not the NBA Finals.
The 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany will again gather Filipino football fans at their favorite watering holes to catch the games live.
Among the establishments that will air the games starting at midnight are Marco Polo Plaza Hotel and the Cebu City Marriott Hotel and Table 7 at the Cebu Business Park.
The Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino will release an advisory later this week regarding its World Cup-related activities.
Dolly Belo of Marriott said games, including the opening ceremony and opening match between Germany and Croatia, will be seen on a wide-screen TV at their pool bar and the Palm Lounge.
Meanwhile, the Cebu Football Association, led by its president Jonathan Maximo, plans a tie-up with Marriott for tonight’s opening.
“There’s one being organized by the Philippine Football Federation but it is in Manila, so we are also planning one here,” Maximo said.
For a minimum of 10 persons, a group can avail of a function room. They will get chips and nuts for every order of draft beer.
Not to be outdone, the newly opened Marco Polo Plaza Hotel also offers a complimentary drink for every five orders at its Al Fresco restaurant.
