    KNOW YOUR NIHONTO

    Tachi
This sword was made for the purpose of swinging it on a horse. It has a deep curve for a battle on a horse and swing it to the side. There is this deep curve to reduce intense reaction by the speed of a horse when the sword is swung on the horse. Tachi isn't put in the waist. Turn downward the edge of it, and hang on the waist.

    Uchigatana(Katana)
A sword longer than 60cm is called Uchigatana. Especially, it was made as a weapon to fight on foot. The curve of Uchigatana is shallower than Tachi, and the length is a little shorter than Tachi too. The curve was made a little shallow, and it became the form which was suitable for the effective thrust in the ground battle. Moreover, the curve was a little left, and it became the form to keep the power of the sword. This sword is put in the waist, and an edge is turned upward.

    Wakizashi
This sword is under 60cm more than 30cm. Wakizashi was put on together with Uchigatana. Especially, it was prescribed that Wakizashi and Uchigatana were put on together in the Edo Period. Therefore, the ratio of production quantity of Wakizashi was very high.

    Tanto(Short sword)
A sword under 30cm is called Tanto. Because length was short, the Tanto was easy to make. Therefore, there were many things which were excellent. Therefore, there are many people who love tanto from ancient times.
