In Manila, where all of the movie studios and production houses are, its surprising how many of the production people lack basic theory.
Most of them learn through apprencticeship. Gaffers and grips get promoted to camera operator, then to director of photography simply because there's nobody else more qualified for the position.
A friend of mine took up a workshop in Mowelfund and the favorite expression of their cinematography instructor was: "Ewan ko anong tawag yan, nakalimutan ko na pagpasok ko sa industria".

If one can afford the amount it incurs then by all means do join IAFT. Not everyone has the discipline and knack to self-study a very technical artform. Though their way is Hollywood-ish there is no one stopping you from putting in a cebuano flavor into your films.

the facilities of Bigfoot Entertainment at their Int'l Academy of Film and Television are indeed quite impressive(but compared to ABS-CBN, GMA 7-- they still have some way to go but they are getting there) and the projects they have lined up for 2006 are promising... hopefully this would help boost Cebu and Mactan's potential in many ways, communication, business, tourism---- it's another marker that places the island on the global map
