For me and based also of the Wikipedia link that you talk about, faith can be applied to anything. It could be religion or any other thing. And this has 3 common things,
1. Knowing the subject of your faith
2. Believing in that information about the subject
3. Doing what you believe
Like for example in Christian Faith this means Knowing God's Word, Believing God's Word, Doing God's Word. But most improtanltly Chritian faith is not primarily some settled and serene conclusion reached at the end of a chain of philosophical reasoning. But rather, faith is the readiness and eagerness to receive what is offered to us in Jesus Christ. It is the hand that grasps the gift of God in Jesus and makes it our own.
