It only took Japan 6 days to repair this quake-damaged highway

Despite being stricken by a deadly trifecta of natural and man-made disasters, Japan is still able to show us all why they are the most advanced civilization on the face of the planet. As seen in the photo above, a section of the Great Kanto Highway in Naka, Japan was completely destroyed by the magnitude 9.0 earthquake that hit the country 2 weeks ago.

Clearly it wasn't just a simple crack on the road as the asphalt was literally swallowed by the ground causing the roadway and the embankment to fall out of alignment. But lo and behold: in a matter of 6 days, the same section has been paved and is now ready to be used by motorists again.

Now you might say that such a feat isn't really that impressive, considering how even the MMDA can reblock portions of EDSA over one weekend. Ah but lest you forget, Japan is faced with an estimated $300 billion worth of rebuilding costs.

Had the Great Kanto Highway been in the Philippines, the papers for the repair works might still be in the kanto of some government personnel's desk. Don't get us wrong, we have the utmost faith in our government, but we really can't see our agencies being able to pull off such a stunt any time soon.
