no, they are not from the BIR. they're from the city treasurer's office. taga city hall na sila.
LIKE the dancing inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center and the dancing stewardesses of Cebu Pacific Airlines, the dancing tax collectors at the City Treasurer’s Office of Cebu City Hall have also caught the public’s attention, even in the international scene.
International news agencies like the Agence France Presse even sent a photographer to document it after it came out in the national news.
"The Manny Pacquiao Blog". Stories and updates on the Filipino boxing champ.
All employees of the City Treasurer’s Office, headed by City Treasurer Ofelia Oliva (in her signature miniskirt), dance for a few minutes, twice a day, to entertain clients: once in the morning and once in the afternoon. When the music ends, they go back to their respective tables and do their assignments. Taxpayers can also participate in the dancing.
Major television networks and national newspapers carried the news after Oliva launched her “dancing tax collectors” last Oct. 11. We should give Oliva credit for coming up with the idea to entertain taxpayers waiting to pay their taxes. Oliva said paying taxes is an additional financial burden to taxpayers. So, she came up with the idea to make them smile. Many welcome Oliva’s “pakulo.” In fact, a Hong Kong-based production company has sent a choreographer to help improve their choreography. But how long can they sustain this? I bet, next month, they will drop the program.
Since Filipinos are known to be copycats—gaya-gaya, puto maya in Tagalog—we can expect other local government units to copy Oliva’s idea. Can we expect dancing traffic enforcers under Citom chairman Jack Jakosalem? Or singing and dancing mayor’s office personnel to be headed by the singing mayor himself, Mike Rama? And they will be belting out “They way you look tonight” and “Kahit Isang Saglit.”
Morag tuna-an sa kabaw. Paging Mayor Mike. Please attend to these.
