Yup we hear countless stories of Filipinos that served in the 2nd World War and Stories about the Japanese Occupation.
A sad story was my great uncle ( dad's uncle ) was a doctor who served as a doctor in the army during the japanese occupation, they first escaped to Bohol were they spent some time, unfortunately they were captured by the Japanese and was brought to Manila , where they spent a better half of the war in prison.
The sad experience was when they were docked sa Manila they were made to stay in the boat for more than a month without proper sanitation , food , medicine kay dili sila masud sa prisohan ... He said the experience was horrible , like dogs in cages. They urinated, vomited , etc .... in that little space they had. he said the experience was something he couldn't forget.
He comes to Cebu to visit and tells me stories of that time, one time he had me accompany him to Bohol to visit veterans he served and met there, when we arrived at this old little town around an hour or two away from Tagbilaran we inquired if they were still around, he mentioned their names, and to our surprise they had some pictures hanging at the local police station and government office , unfortunately they had all passed... only to see my uncle in tears .... hence I would really like to see this HBO special of the Pacific to see a glimpse of the past and stories from these men who served ( even if the Philippines may not be the focal point of movie , but the fact it is in the Pacific )
