BAND GUIDELINES FOR 2008 CGF
The Cebu Guitar Festival will once again happen this weekend. With an event of this magnitude, a million things needs to be planned out, and if possible, down to the last detail. And with the organizers also performing, it is doubly hard to run the event as smoothly as humanly possible. And as Murphy's Law states, "If something can go wrong, it will." This might sound a bit too negative, but we need to be prepared for every little problem that might arise.
That being said, the organizers would like to ask for a little cooperation (a lot, actually) from the performers.
First, let us all accept that there are no "rock stars" in this event. All will shine brightly, in different ways, but with the same intensity.
Second, to show our appreciation to our fellow artists/music geniuses (for you all are), we hope that everyone will come as early as 7pm so you can watch the others perform. Footstompin' applause from the audience is great, but genuine appreciation from fellow musicians would be something that cannot be bought.
Third, please follow the given schedule and please do not be late. Bands should be on the venue an hour before their given sked. Due to time constraints, and the number of performers, we cannot adjust the schedule easily. We cannot even let you play after 2am if you're not on time. In other words, if you're not there when you're supposed to, then we cannot let you perform.
Fourth, when you arrive, please look for the “on-site band coordinator”. He/She will help you settle your things/bags/guitars/gear and again, will give you a technical form to fill up. He/She will also hand you out the meal stubs. He/She will also be the “one” giving out the TF's. But let's talk about that later.
Fifth, for God's sake or for the devil's sake, PLEASE tune your guitars prior to jumping on the stage. Don't think about how you would look on stage or worry about the “power stance” you've been practicing for the whole 8 weeks. Nothing beats a properly tuned guitar!!! Also, check your cables too. A bad cable can be disastrous and can take away your alotted time on stage, so maybe you'll be playing two songs now instead of three. Be Professional.
Sixth, all bands are given 30 mins per time slot slot (except for special cases). That's 5 mins. set-up, 15 mins. play and 5 mins. wrap-up. I know, I know my math is wrong but the extra 5 mins is a special contingency allotment time just in case you were fixing your gear or fixing your hair too long on the stage. All bands have to follow the 30-minute rule. That's the rule here. I don't like rules, too. But there are rules. This is THE rule.
Seventh, heaven and hell forbid it but if your band goes wary and exceed the 30-min rule, a silent but bullky, well-built man shall approach you on the stage, and he will say a little chant and let the devil take away your mojo. We don't want that. We don't want “the Man” to come near the stage and give you that Al Pacino look. So, respect the 30-min rule and respect the band that will be playing after you. Job 4:16 (King James Version)... “It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,....”
Eighth, after your gig, please look for the “on-site band coordinator” again and He/She will hand you an envelope. Whatever is in it, whether it's enough or not, the most valuable and momentous thing is...that....YOU did your part. You did your part in uplifting youself and the Cebuano talents in general to Glory. It's a long way to the top if you want to rock 'n roll, but we're getting there, with your help, one step at a time. We Thank You. (note: this is the TF part we are talking about, you can stop searching now)
“Music is a safe type of high. It's more the way it was supposed to be. That's where highness came, I guess, from anyway. It's nothing but rhythm and motion.” -Jimi Hendrix
We are all here in this event for ONE thing only. To play Music. Music without genres. Music without bounderies. Music without color. Music without hate. Music without time. FOR THOSE ABOUT TO ROCK.....WE SALUTE YOU
