    @everyone:
why don't we all post a little something here like things to do IF you ARE the governor or the one who can make the engines go in Leyte area:

    example:
1 gather all pertinent documents re that research done by independent american researchers re leyte as sitting along the active Phil fault line.
    http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/ceb....unheeded.html courtesy of LytSlpr/ sunstar

-get data from DENR re what they're doing with regards to illegal logging in the area
-get data from government agency in charge of soil types etc (Mines and Geo-Sciences Bureau)

all these datas are needed so we can map out danger zones in the area.

2 in pinpointing the critical areas, barangay officials of locations concerned can form 20 teams (2 each) and make a survey:

    questions asked:
a would you be willing to relocate if housing and livelihood projects will be provided by the government?
b if not, would you sign a waiver that you won't vacate the area after the 3rd time you're asked to vacate in case of bad weather?
    c opinions, comments etc.

i know those people concerned (who have the power to get this job done) may have done this steps or maybe they're just sitting on their butts, but in any case lets hand carry, e-mail or mail to them this simple precautionary measures.. so instead of blaming whoever sits in that "almighty chair" let's focus our effort on letting them know that it's not that hard if they focus on the job at hand.

i also know that this might be an excercise in futility, but what the heck, let's give it a try.. we won't know the outcome of this endeavor until we try.

we need your thoughts, ideas, inputs re precautionary measures, and anything you can contribute in this matter..
Shut Up! Let your GAME do the talking!

Palace to opposition: Don't use pork for Leyte victims

WHILE HOUSE Speaker Jose de Venecia was urging legislators to donate part of their pork barrel for the relief and rehabilitation of landslide victims in Southern Leyte province, Malacañang Tuesday slammed opposition legislators for wanting to do the same thing and accused them of politicking.
Presidential Chief of Staff Michael Defensor said opposition lawmakers like Rep. Francisco Escudero should dig deep into their pockets rather than their pork barrel in making donations to victims of natural disasters.

"Probably, they should donate their own money. They don't need to wait for the CDF (Countryside Development Fund) to help the Leyte victims,” said Defensor, bristling at the opposition's complaints about the slow release of their pork barrel funds while administration allies had been given theirs.

Defensor said he did not know why the opposition members had not yet received their pork barrel. He said charges that the budget office was withholding the funds because of the opposition's attempt to impeach President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo last year showed that the opposition would stop at nothing to push their agenda.

House Majority leader Prospero Nograles, who had donated P100,000 from his pork barrel, also known as Priority Development Assistance Fund, took a swipe at party-list groups for not doing the same thing.

DPWH to aid in S. Leyte landslide

PUBLIC Works and Highways Secretary Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr. ordered the mobilization of all DPWH-owned heavy equipment and maintenance crew in Eastern Visayas to help in the retrieval operations in Barangay Guinsaugon, Saint Bernard, Southern Leyte.

“If the DPWH equipment is not enough, the private constructors should also extend assistance in the retrieval operations,” Ebdane said.

He has also ordered Bureau of Equipment Director Virgilio Arpafo to deploy all available equipment in the area to open up roads affected by landslides. This is to ensure the smooth flow of relief and rescue efforts in the vicinity.

“Opening up of roads affected by rocks and landslides should be round-the-clock operations,” Ebdane said.

Jaime Pacanan, DPWH director for Eastern Visayas, reported that all national roads blocked by rocks and landslides are now open to traffic except in Barangay Agas-agas along the Mahaplag-Sogod boundary on Maharlika Highway.

The collapsed Agas-agas road, with an estimated 20,000 cubic meters of rocks and landslides, is totally closed to traffic.* Clearing operations are ongoing, Pacanan said.
An estimated 15,000 cubic meters of rocks and landslides have piled up in Olisihan and 20,000 cubic meters in Sitio Baling Tulay, Kahupian.

A detour road in Lipanto along Himayangan-Silago road was opened to divert traffic.
“We advise the motoring public to use this Lipanto detour road to avert untoward accidents,” Pacanan said.
Southern Leyte District Engineer Carlos Veloso also reported that national roads leading to Pacific and Panaon and the Bato-Bontoc road are now passable to all types of vehicles.
