personally, i don't like this trade for two reasons. i've been both an SMB fan and dondon hontiveros fan. sayang kaayo if they let DH go since he's one of SMB's and PBA's best guards. i would rather prefer sending danny ildefonso for enrico villanueva to red bull rather than dondon hontiveros.

but will this really pursue? red bull is mostly comprised of ateneo players. villanueva, alvarez, bugia, fonacier. siguro si gonzales and tenorio na lang ilang kuhaon sa SMB. (mayta di lang apilon sa tenorio)

RATCHABURI, Thailand. – When Enrico Villanueva returns to the Philippines Tuesday, he will report to the San Miguel camp and not at Red Bull.

After months of negotiation, Villanueva has been sent by the Bulls to the Beermen in exchange for Romel Adducul, according to PBA Commissioner Noli Eala.

The deal was sealed after a meeting between Red Bull team manager Tony Chua, who arrived here Monday, and SMC official Robert Non. The paper work for the deal is being finalized so Villanueva and Adducul can play for their new teams on Wednesday.

The deal was sealed when the pro league approved Red Bull’s request to remove Villanueva from the team’s "restricted trade list." The RTL status has been transferred to Mick Pennisi.

The RTL system has been put in place by the Commissioner’s Office to insure parity in the league and avoid one-sided deals. At the same time, the Commissioner’s Office designated one player from each team to the RTL list. Players in the RTL pool can only be traded to one another.

Red Bull, which scored three wins while Villanueva was playing for the RP team here, sought a change in the team’s RTL player so it could trade Villanueva, a change approved by the league.

Villanueva, drafted by the Bulls three years ago, will part ways with former Ateneo teammates Magnum Membrere, Paolo Bugia and Larry Fonacier.

At San Miguel, he will join forces with ex-Ateneo teammates Wesley Gonzales and LA Tenorio.

Adducul will return to Red Bull, one of the teams where he played for in the PBL.
