    first blood in the Mavs Organization: [br]_________________________________________________
    Mavs fire Johnson after early playoff exit

    DALLAS (AP) - The Dallas Mavericks fired coach Avery Johnson on Wednesday, the first of what's likely to be many offseason moves after the team with the league's highest payroll again flopped in the first round of the playoffs.

    Johnson out as Dallas coach Avery Johnson took over as Dallas coach in 2005 after Don Nelson stepped down. Despite a string of stellar regular-season efforts, it has not translated to much playoff success.

    The Mavericks followed that 2006 disappointment by the embarrassment of being ousted by Golden State in the opening round last season in one of the biggest upsets in league history. And they were just dumped in five games by Chris Paul and the New Orleans Hornets.

    Dallas didn't win a single road game against the Heat, Warriors or Hornets, an 0-9 skid that was too much to overcome.

    The final mark during Johnson's tenure: 194-70 in the regular season, 23-24 in the playoffs.

    "It is never easy to relieve a coach of his duties, especially one of Avery's caliber," Cuban said in a statement. "He is a talented coach and I want to thank him for his efforts over the last four years and what he has done for this franchise."

    Durant beats out Horford for rookie of the year

    Seattle SuperSonics guard Kevin Durant will be named NBA rookie of the year, the Seattle Times and The Associated Press reported.

    Durant, who led all first-year players in scoring, assists and free-throw percentage, reportedly beat out Atlanta Hawks forward Al Horford to become the first Rookie of the Year in Seattle franchise history. The NBA is expected to officially announce the award on Thursday.

    Durant averaged 20.3 points per game in 2007-08 -- the highest scoring average for a rookie since Carmelo Anthony averaged 21 points per game and LeBron James averaged 20.9 ppg in 2003-04. Only three of the past 10 rookies of the year -- Durant, James and Elton Brand -- have averaged at least 20 points in their first season.

    Unsaon ta man most of the ROY winners are based on individual talent and marketability and not all about how they impact their team. Mura ra man ug palabwanay ug PPG sa ROY race nya kung kinsa ang mas taas, daug dayon.

    Plus, mura ra man ni ug gihatagan ug candy ang mga taga-Seattle kay mobalhin na sa Oklahoma ang Sonics. Sayang jud kaayo ang history sa Seattle SuperSonics. Mura ra ni ug Celtics mihawa sa Boston kay mobalhin sa lain na lugar. Pretty sad.

    Trades could come and go for the Mavs but some of them are tough to make the trade;

    Erick Dampier ($11.5 million), Jason Terry ($9.1 million) and Jerry Stackhouse ($7 million). Eddie Jones, who will be 37 next season, is likely to exercise a $2 million player option. Dallas also has a team option on Brandon Bass, who at this point is their most promising youngster.

    Cuban might be blamed for his antics but one thing he is good at: his passion for the game.

    we don't see other owners support their teams like he's their biggest fan, only Mark Cuban does that. some may say he's kinda over the top but hey if it's for the good of the team then that's his priority. if he decides to overhaul the Mavs, he'll figure it out and find a way to go about it.

    he's been doing trades since I could remember, blockbuster ones at that. I couldn't even remember all the names and faces of players that have come and gone the Mavs locker room. I don't think there's anything impossible for an owner who wants to win championships what with Dirk's window of opportunity slowly closing down on them.

    expect a brand-new Mavs before the trade deadline next season.
