well, it is the Chinese heritage i was really curious about. it's just easy to address them as "Chinese people" than refer to them as people with Chinese heritage.

but sometimes, i feel, that the people of Chinese heritage here in the Philippines are somehow just living here and not really adapting to the place. i mean, it's like they're just here for business of some sort but never really consider the idea that they soon will be or in the process of being Filipino.

What is being Filipino? How are you more Filipino than anyone with Chinese blood? What are Filipino traits?

personally my grand father came from China and migrated here because it was troubling times in China before. Here she met and married a filipina, along came my mom. If you knew my mom, She is as cebuano or filipino as anyone here.

the problem is a lot of people stereotype or typecast people because they belong to a certain race, culture or financial level. i think that is wrong!!

well, comparing myself to this guy i'm seeing right now...

1. he's awfully thrifty(not that i'm complaining or anything )
2. he prefers eating Chinese meals above any other.
3. he speaks Chinese at home, on the phone, when he's mad or frustrated or whenever he wants to say something that just doesnt have an english or bisaya equivalent to him.
4. his parents would rather have him date "someone Chinese"
-i know my parents or most of the parents i know who are not Chinese won't really care about the race.in other words, they dont like me.

...now these are the things i've noticed so far and we only started going out for a month or so... i dunno if there's more to find out.

Being thrifty is not a Chinese trait ... it's a human trait. There are thrify Chinese and Filipino people.

He likes Chinese food? So what? I know black people who eat Chinese and would eat Chinese everyday and twice on Sundays. Thats a preference. That doesn't make them Chinese Negroes.

Language does not make you more Chinese than Filipino. Everybody knows the Chinese here isn't the same Chinese as mainland China. If it doesn't have an English or Bisaya equivalent ... then why not? I curse in Spanish all the time ... that doesn't make me Spanish ... I just grew up with lots of people with Spanish roots.

Wanting your son to marry who you want is only natural. Having your son date someone who has Chinese roots makes their son's future predictable. People like to know where things are headed. When they see their kids going out with familiar people, they don't feel as out of touch. It's like wanting your kids to play with the kids that you know about. Wanting your son to marry who you want is only natural. This is as Filipino as it is Chinese.

Again ... what are the traits that are SOLELY confined to these Chinese people that believe it or not ... aren't so different from you and I. I know satoy personally from two posts up, and he's as insik as any other insik in Cebu ... but he's also as Pinoy as any other Pinoy.

This great book is their life bible and is translated for use in daily living, doing business, how to succeed and time management. many pinoy have adapted it. adapt it early and learn from them.

that book answers all your chinese related questions, which include boya boya, maintaining wealth and chinese bloodlines marrying same bloodlines.

If I were you crinkle date somebody else kanang dili ingon ana ka strict nga chinese coz I have a lot of rich chinese friends and they're parents are just so strict naa man gud na sa culture nila na they really want to have their kid to marry somebody nga atleast chinese sad kay dili cla gusto mawagtang ilang dugo nga pagka chinese aside from that sa business sad nila they want somebody who is chinese too, to take care of it kung dili chinese mura wala sila salig. Then lisud man gud na bisan mo ingon ka nga guy really loves you so much or ipaglaban ka but still in the end that person is so much inclined to his family mao ra japon mobalik na sa iyang family and aside from that no akong mga friends nga naminyo ug chinese den dili sila chinese inig minyo na nila mura ra himuon maid ang babae wala gyud sila say sa ilang relationship as in puros nagmahay. I hate to say this pero ubos man cla pagtan aw sa babay oi ang babay no para ra gyud sa balay, paanakan, for bedtime and that's it

ey, i'm not really looking forward to going exclusive with anybody right now. i was just curious. that's all. it just occurred to me that i dont really have any idea about this topic. that's why it's here. it aint for any other purpose but to answer my queries.
