    Default SUMILON ISLAND THE BEST!!!

Sumilon Island is the country's first marine reserve where nature reigns supreme.Â* Lying in the midst of gin-clear waters, this romantic uninhibited island features lush vegetation, a pristine lake, a stretch of shifting white sandbar and one of the best dive spots in the Visayas. Sumilon is breathtakingly beautiful - an unspoiled bed of nature's bounty in terrestrial and marine flora and fauna. It is paradise to scuba divers and snorkelers, with its large coral colonies, shallow channels and hundreds of species of tropical fish and other marine attractions. The gorgeous 24-hectare island is a fascinating spot for nature lovers. Only 15 minutes by boat from Barangay Bancogon in the southern town of Oslob, is home to a 32-year old marine sanctuary, the oldest in the country managed by Silliman University in the 1970’s. It is the shallow waters of the sanctuary that sparkle green even from the highway overlooking Bancogon. With stands of forest on a hill in the middle of the island, and lush mangroves surrounding a freshwater lagoon right beside a long stretch of white beach, Sumilon was also declared a municipal tree park in 1990. A lighthouse and a Spanish-era Moro watchtower stand on top of the hill. Sharp rocks line its coves and cliffs. These, and the intricate patterns of trees shaped by wind and salt, hint of wildness in the island’s natural beauty.

The resort has modern amenities, like running water, 24-hour electricity and 12 air-conditioned Japanese-style huts with verandas gazing seaward. It has a clinic and offers airport assistance and transfers. There’s the Island Pavilion where you can order food in the restaurant or slake your thirst at the bar. There are caves to inspect, like the natural grotto converted into a place for meditation. There’s no room for boredom. You can swim in the pool, scuba dive, paddle a boat at the natural lagoon ringed by mangroves; play board games or rent CDs; browse in the library; or buy souvenirs at the gift shop. Have evening dinner parties or beach picnic, sip afternoon tea, lounge at the Payag-Payag, or get a massage by the shore, learn line or hook fishing, take the glass-bottomed boat trip or tour in neighboring towns. If you like simplicity, take one of the coral-covered trails for a romantic stroll. It could lead to a 19th century watchtower, the Baluarte, once used to spot approaching marauders. On this perch today you can take your girlfriend to propose in style. Another is the Yamashita Cave, named after the Japanese gold speculators.
