Presidential Decree 772 (PD 772) effected by former President Ferdinand Marcos in 1975 made prosecuting “squatting and other criminal acts” relatively easy. Squatting under PD 772 was clearly a criminal undertaking as Section 1 of the decree states…
Any person who, with the use of force, intimidation or threat, or taking advantage of the absence or tolerance of the landowner, succeeds in occupying or possessing the property of the latter against his will for residential commercial or any other purposes, shall be punished by an imprisonment ranging from six months to one year or a fine of not less than one thousand nor more than five thousand pesos at the discretion of the court, with subsidiary imprisonment in case of insolvency.
And so, under Marcos’s administration, thousands of squatters were successfully evicted from land they illegally inhabited and jailed for their offense.

May I add that there are no squatters in Ilocos Norte where the Marcoses hold power. Compare that to tarlac hahahaha.

i know this because i happen to be a volunteer for Gawad Kalinga. it frustrates me to see how you try to help these people but more than half of them just take advantage of your goodwill. mobalik ra gihapon pag skwating kay naa kuno ilang panginabuhi didto pero obviously they're just after easy money. some are not even willing to learn in spite of the programs we give to them. so for me, they should only be given one second chance. kung gahi pa gihapon ang ulo, then bahala na sila sa kinabuhi. nag usik-usik ra sila sa atong kwarta nga makabenefit unta ang laing mas deserving

sa average working class nga pinoy.. kung gusto mag balay (via pagibig) .. pirting daghana sa requirements ug qualifications. murag wala pa jud assistance gikan sa government.. mag bayad pa ug equity (most of the time 30%) ug interest

    illegal settlers
    - libre abang for pila ka years
    - wala gi pang bayaran nga property related government fees and taxes
    - inig pa hawa bayaran pa
    - relocation package

It would be nice if the tax would be translated in good use providing homes for our hapless fellow countrymen,
than going into the pockets of our corrupt government officals.
