I suggest Canon 400D + kit lens with Sandisk Ultra II 1GB CF.. that should be like more or less $900.

Ngajo lang ko ug mga inputs ninjo. Someone playing Santa & kind enough to provide my wants this post x-mas. Kay naa man ko deri nag post, you can read my mind what i want

I had a lil experienced with my Olympus P&S cam. Even though i took over a thousand pix's on that D-Cam, i'm still noob on this field and yet I believe its about time to own a DSLR cam. The octane is too low & i'm hesitant to pursue this project but the enthusiasm was changed after i made quick visit on flicker website. Now i'm about to grab my very 1st DSLR cam equip with almost 12 man hours of researchs on what model & brand i should own. I opt for a Nikon brand and the model either the new release D40 or the D80 which was released 1Q away. As i shopped around and get hold the physical units, i definitely take the D40. Sounds like i'm too close to acquire my DSLR but i was wrong. A lil peptalk from the salesperson, i found out that in a long run its too expensive to maintain the D40. The reason is, the D40 requires AFS lens (i dunno if i use the exact term) which manufactured by Nikkor & its more expensive compare to the 3rd party lens vendor.

Okay by this time it boils down to D80 but i was wrong again. He put me into the crossroad, he suggested to take the D50 with almost same capability with D80 and almost half a price. Though the MP can speak something but for my very own pleasure its not that much appealing since most of my pixs going to be print-out with 4" x 6" size. Now i'm going back again to the drawing board to decide if i should acquire the D50 or D80.

Any PROS & CONS input from these DSLR's (D50 vs. D80) are very welcome to help me decide which model should i acquire. By body alone, there is a delta about half a grand. Is it really justifiable from beginners eyes & hands in the proconsumer arena?

Nikon D80 pricing. If this is my choice, i'm planning to grab the item with nikkor lens kit (18-55mm) plus a lens (55-200mm) with an overall price of 1.3K

Nikon D50 pricing. If this is my choice, i'm planning to grab the item with 2 nikkor lens kit (18-55mm & 55-200mm) with a price 0.8K

If I did not own any previous Canon Lenses and accessories and out hunting for a new DSLR .. I would go for the D80 ...

Its a better cam than the D50 ... or you can also consider Canon 400D

    I suggest get the Nikon D70S + Tamron 17-55mm f2.8 + Sandisk Ultra II 1GB CF = More or less $1250.00
Tamron 17-55mm f2.8 comparable to Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 (More expensive X3 price). And most reviews will tell you that the Tamron 17-55mm f2.8 is a good performer.

    Like I said, with the Nikon D70S + Tamron 17-55mm f2.8 + Sandisk Ultra II 1GB + Nikon SB-600 = $1, 400.00 esp. you'll not regret it.

Or you may want to get this porn set instead..

I'm okay, i settled with Nikon D50 w/ Nikkor 28-80mm f/3.3-5.6 AF Lens (499 + sales tax). Planning to buy Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 XR (400 + sales tax) or Quantaray 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 DC (360 + sales tax) lense but right now i'm still doing my research if i'm on the right track to spend few more hundreds.
