AlbertCruz: There's a big difference between commie-loving people (as you put it) and people who are open to the beliefs of their fellows. To each, his own.

the question should be, can we see Ka Roger as a person who lived and died for what he thought was right, or will we forever see him as an icon of the communist movement?

can we ever divorce the man from his ideologies? how much do we know about him, where he came from, and his personal beliefs apart from what he fought for?

Well it makes me equally sick knowing we have people in government, who own businesses, who manipulate laws to work for THEM (and their friends who are not politicians but own businesses too), so that their big, huge, profit engines can still churn out the wealth they oh so love and cannot part with, and so thus create the necessary infrastructure (via police and military coercion) so that the status quo will remain the status quo, because preservation of the status quo means that their "life at the top" will be preserved.

If you don't get sickened by this arrangement you are either brain-dead or simply apathetic. And this apathy is perhaps one of the MAIN reasons why the ones "up there" will ALWAYS get what they want.

I am curious though, if, after you've known about how this all works out, do you still wish to remain apathetic and just turn a blind eye on WHAT'S REALLY happening in this country nowadays?

Or are you going to do something about it?

You DID misinterpret it. The phrase means:

"Do not express hatred in this thread. If you wish to express hatred towards a particular group or individual, then deal with that hatred privately using iStorya.net's Private Messaging (PM) feature."

First, if the news article is to be believed, the military (his enemies in the battlefield) offered to give him medical assistance. Now that, sir, is a sign of respect. It was never mentioned that he should be given a medal. If his 'personal' enemies were decent enough to offer him help then I think there's more to the guy than what we know.

Second, the Nazis didn't die for their beliefs. They killed for their ideals. They died because they couldn't get away with it. I've no love for genocidal maniacs.

Third, using sarcasm in an argument has its merits. I applaud you for that.

Lastly, I respect your opinions and, as the overused term goes, I know where you're coming from. So let's have a healthy discussion and exchange ideas (preferably over beer) but this thread would do.

    Gareb: good point.

    Chill folks.

People should stop associating capitalism with corruption. When people in government manipulate the laws to benefit themselves and their friends that is corruption and cronyism, not capitalism.

I'd rather respect a person who wants the entire country to progress, without the jealousy that some are progressing more than others. What matters is for everyone to move forward, if some are moving ten steps forward and you've only two steps, you are still two steps ahead from where you were before. Why does it matter that somebody is eight steps ahead of you? Nobody has a right to hold others back from striving for their personal success.

And having said all this, even in our messed up system it's possible for a nobody to rise above the ranks and become successful. You don't need to be well-connected to succeed, if you believe that then you're just using it as a crutch and excuse to despise the system because there are people taking advantage of it. In truth there are many people who play the game fairly and got to where they are fair and square through sacrifice and diligence. The government, messed up as it is, still offers a lot of opportunities to those who are capable and willing to do the hard work. Can things be done better, can we improve our current system, yes of course. But should we destroy the system and give reins of government to the NPA in some kind of self-destruct experiment? No.

When revolutionaries collect taxes do they build schools, roads and markets that help people lead better lives or do they spend that money on buying more guns and bombs with which to terrorize people? Re people hating the NPA, there are some people who firsthand experienced getting their houses burned by the NPA. Haters they may be, but with good reason. If I went to your house and burned it down for whatever cause I believe in, you'd hate me too.

No one here, I believe, would condone any act that would render civilians as "tools" or "means to an end", but one cannot deny that in the struggle to "assert who has the correct/right system in place", those who are caught in the crossfire are the ones who actually suffer the most. The problem is, since those in power are, well, IN POWER, they have the MEANS to sometimes SKEW and DISTORT media reports (some of these people in power OWN NEWSPAPERS and TV stations) in order to show that revolutionary movements are NOTHING BUT terrorists and house burners and are "killing without reason, and taxing just for their own stomachs." I mean, if you were in power, wouldn't you also FIND ANY MEANS in order to make sure that these so-called revolutionaries are PAINTED as villains, in order that your own agenda may be in place?

And as thus, this is a good time to ask, since you have said that you have visited countries and such...have you ever visited a real NPA camp, and have you been on one of their patrols and actually have seen for yourself, first hand, accounts of these wanton bandit-like acts and meaningless aggression? If you didn't know, the first thing taught to an NPA operative is NOT to wield a weapon, but to WIELD a BOOK--the revolutionary teacher is always the most important aspect of the revolution--without PROPER EDUCATION, a revolt will NEVER succeed.
