Despite a labor dispute that threatens to erupt into a crippling strike, the country’s flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) will still proceed with plans to close down three departments and outsource “non-core" positions, a spokesperson said.

An estimated 2,700 positions will be contracted out, PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna told GMANews.TV.

The move is expected to cut the airline’s labor costs, which are currently the equivalent of about 40 percent of revenues, Villaluna added.

By trimming its workforce to just over 4,000 from its current 7,000, the company expects to save anywhere from P500 million to P1 billion in monthly salary costs.

pero nindot ra ba kaayo ug benefits ning mga pilots. six digit salary unya they can only fly a limited number of hours per month. sa US FAA limited ang mga pilots to 100 hours flying lang. Ambot lang diri kung unsay max flying hours.

this only means that there is a major problem within PAL and the result is this. This is not the second, third, etc...times that we will be hearing any problem with this airline. More problems to come and more headaches for us consumers.

ALPAP (Airline Pilots Association of the Philippines) cited "poor working conditions". According to some pilots, PAL takes them for granted.

they should come out with a list of their gripes against management.

From what I know, the pilots have good working conditions. imagine just working 100 hours a month!
