Santa Claus, also known as Saint Nicholas, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle, or simply "Santa" is a historical, legendary and mythological character associated with bringing gifts on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. The popular North American form Santa Claus originated as a mispronunciation of Dutch Sinterklaas, which in turn is a contracted form of Sint Nicolaas (Saint Nicholas). However, the Dutch Sinterklaas is different from Santa Claus in many ways. The Dutch word for Santa Claus is Kerstman ("Christmas man"). Santa Claus has a suit that comes in many colors depending on the country. The most common depiction (red with white sleeves, collar, and belt) became the more popular image in the United States in the mid-to-late 19th century.

Priest Bans Pagan Santa from Church
He may be a popular Christmas icon for many, children and adult alike, but Santa Claus has lost so much in the way of Christian meaning that he just isn't "Christian enough" for some - even in Europe. As a consequence, a Belgian priest has banned Santa images from his church.
Ananova reports:
Priest Daniel Beernaert, who's 68, told Gazet van Antwerpen: "I'll never welcome Santa Claus in my church. He is a pagan symbol." Father Daniel, of Saint Martin's Church in Koekelare, added: "At Christmas, we celebrate the birth of Christ and not Santa Claus. ... Santa Claus is a commercial symbol that has nothing to do with Christmas. If people want to join it, it's all right, but not in my church."
I can't say that I blame him - Santa does range from pagan to commercial to, at the very least, highly secular. Not wanting to have Santa in a church is quite understandable. At the same time, however, such conflicts are bound to increase as Christmas becomes more and more secular in nature - the secular celebration of Christmas will interfere with the religious celebrations. It's happening in Europe and it will happen in America, too.
thats what you get from christianizing pagan traditions....
naunsa naman ni atong mga topic hahaha
