dell/viewsonic/samsung non wides are just about as good as the apples and a lot cheaper. if you want to go wide, an awesome choice would be the acer f20

Here are some things to consider when choosing LCDs:

There are different kinds of LCD monitors which all comes with different viewablility angles and response times and ofcourse prices so depending on your usage you can take these into account.

IPS LCDs - have an overall better viewability angles and image/color quality and unless you get the newer more expensive ones
with 6ms reponse times they may suffer from bad trailing or ghosting when viewing moving objects. I think this is
what most apple LCDs use (not so sure but i read it in one of the forums...i just cant seem to find the link).

TN LCDs - viewability angles and image/color quality may be a bit poor when compared to IPS but they generally have better
response times (2ms) which lessens trailing. These are also cheaper compared to IPS. Most of the time they'd
    recommend this for gaming.

Theres also the VA LCDs (MVA & PVA) but the above are the more common ones.

here's a link with pictures and everything that may help you understand what i mean above:
    http://www.behardware.com/articles/6...a-2-ms-tn.html

its also a link of a review of a new IPS LCD which seems to perform just as well as a TN while retaining its better image/color quality and viewability. But i'm afraid this'll cost a lot more hehe...hope this helps!

    Budget LCD roundup - http://firingsquad.com/hardware/budg...405/page13.asp

    SUMMARY: (quote taken from link)
"So far, we had been fairly disappointed with the LCD monitors that had come across. We had monitors that were great for games but poor for text such as the Samsung 915N, and monitors that were great for images but poor for games such as the Dell 1703FP. Where was my monitor that had the balance of being a great gaming monitor, a great productivity monitor, and a solid photo monitor? The answer came with the NEC 1770NX."

i'm just not so sure you can easily find NEC LCDs here.

oh yeah, stay away from those 6bit TN panels viewing angles arent so good and have low contrast levels (TN panels are usually 6bit) a good way to tell between 6bit and 8bit panels (usually ips/s-ips/mva/p-mva panels) -> 16.2mil colors (6bit), 16.7mil colors (8bit) and since you asked about apple's hd cinema display i guess you already know this again if you might want to go wide the acer f20 smokes teh dell 2005fpw/apple hd cinema (20 incher) sa ako experience hinuon ni

yeah those Apple Cinema HD Display is pretty sick,......

i would like to get the 30" Cinema HD Display,..... but dat shiet is a grip,....

this is wat i did,...... since i couldn't afford the 30" Cinema HD Display,.....
i went out and research'd about TV Monitors,.... my main goal was to get a 30" above LCD with a aspec ratio of 16:9 (just like the movies)
i found a Sharp AQUOS 32",..... and i was about to buy it dat day,... but 1 of the sales prep. asked me wat im gonna be using it for,.... I told him "gaming for my PC and all kinds of other stuff",.... he said it was to BIG,... i said " i want it BIG",....

so wat he did was took the 32" LCD that i want'd and hook'd it up in 1 of the computers in there store,...... and play'd Doom 3 on it,....
and i tell u wat,...... it was too BIG (datz if ur playing on ur computer table with the LCD monitor 2 - 3 feet away from u) my eyes was goin' left to right,..... right to left,..... and if i would be lookin' on the right side of the monitor,...... it would be pretty hard to see wats happenin' on the left side of the monitor,....

    so i went with a SHARP AQUOS 26" Widescreen LCD (ratio ---> 16:9,.... res. ---> 1366 x 768,.. i think its 12ms response time)
