Well I am 57 now, and I started riding Motorcycles when was 16, so that makes it 41 years!
This was my 1st Motorcycle a 1964 Honda C92 'Benly',125cc Twin 4 Stroke, 4 speed Gearbox, Electric and Kick Start, Indicators and Mirrors included. Pressed Steel Frame, Mudguards. Fork, with Leading Link Suspension, Dru Brakes front and rear.
Non-Runner GBP20.00
My younger brother who was riding MotoX with Ringwood Schoolboy Scrambling on a BSA Bantam 125 2 Stroke. His friend had a Norton Jubilee 250cc Twin 4 Stroke. It was a 'Box of Bits' but we managed to build it up buy buying the missing and broken bits. Sold it for 400% profit!
The C92 Benly was sold to a friend of my brother for 200% profit.
Having sold the Norton Jubilee, I bought another Norton, but was 750cc Commando Twin. This won MCN's BiKe of the Year some 5 years running. No other Make/Model has achieved that same accolade. Twin Leading Shoe Front Drum brakes at the front and Drum Brakes at the rear. No Indicators or mirrors as standard! No electric Start either. Fantastic ride and handling (provided one kept the Isolastic engine mounts within desired clearance).
After I got married, was looking for a reliable Motorcycle suitable for Touring, so I sold the Norton Commando and bought a BMW R60/7 with Panterra Fairing and it had Krausuer rack for panniers fitted.
In 1982 I was posted to Bahrain with Cable and Wireless and a bought a Honda XL125. This was more suited to the Roads, than Off-Road use. Wanting something better suited to Off-Road, I sold the XL125, having given it a make-over sp it looked like newer Models.
I ordered a Honda XR200R, my colleagues ordered XR250R and XR500R (these were a little too tall for me, especially the XR500R). This is not like the Honda XR200 in the Philippines as it had RFVC 4 valve engine with twin exhaust pipes, Plastic Fuel Tank and improved suspension.
I traded the BMW R60/7 + GBP1,000 for a mint condition Triumph Trident T160V 750cc Triple. This was a true Classic - last of the British Superbikes that were "Made in England". 5Speed gearbox, Disc Brakes Front and Rear, Electric and Kick Start, Indicators and Mirrors.
I left my T160 to my son, Paul, after my divorce, but he ended up selling it to pay for his University education, as i had been made redundant from my job as Engineering Manager - Asia Pacific, based in Hong Kong.
I joined a Start-up Company formed by my ex-boss and his ex-boss but as the Telecom recession deepened, I was put on 50% deferred salary. Since there was no sign of improvement in the telecom market, I elected to relocate to the Philippines, and choose Cebu since that is where this Filipina, Salome came from that I met in November 1998. We both moved here on 1st May 2001 and have been here ever since.
An American friend was going back to the USA, and was trying to sell his Loncin T200 Terminator. There was a problem with the battery as it would not start using the electric start, had to use the Kick Start (at least it had one). After charging the Battery overnight, it did start using the button the next morning. Trouble was the Voltmeter was reading 14V (or more as it was on the end stop). The problem was traced to a bodge repair job of cutting out a faulty Rectifier/Controller, and splicing 4 x Diodes into the output of the Alternator. Sure it would charge a battery but would overcharge it as no Voltage regulation. A replacement Rectifier/Controller was only Php160.
Actually I did not get on with such 'Cruiser' style Motorcycle, so I sold it to a Brit friend in Naga.
My asawa bought me a Yamaha XT225 'Serow' as a Christmas present in December 2007
That is 7 x Motorcycles, I have owned, over my 41 years of Riding Motorcycles .
