we all know that party list representatives are link to the communist movement... but look at this news, a party list solon condemning the NPA... katoohan dili... pareho ra ni sa claim sa govt nga dili sila ang gabuhat sa political killings.

Let's just place the investigation in the hands of the Melo Commission authorized to investigate the killings. As the head of the commission vowed that there will be no sacred vows with their investigation, I believe we should take it as a promise that the outcome of the investigation is for the benefit of all.

Instead of putting doubts on the capability of the commission even if we know that the integrity and the authority of it cannot be easily tainted, why not wait for the proactive actions of the commission? I'm sure that the people in such commission will prove that justice will be served to those who deserve it.

out of the 5 members including justice Melo himself are too close to GMA for comfort. I dont know about Bishop De dios Pueblos. But the odds are great that there will be whitewash.

Why should the government burden the people with this latest sarswela of an investigation?

Slay probers will remain independent, Melo says

FORMER Supreme Court Associate Justice Jose Melo yesterday vowed to assert the independence of the five-member commission he heads, amid skepticism on its ability to get to the bottom of the spate of killings targeting journalists and political activists.

“We are independent. We will see how the chips fall,” Melo said in an interview after taking his oath as commission chairman.

He said the commission would resist any kind of pressure because its work would be a waste of time if there were any sacred cows that must be protected.

Can you hear the drums Fernando?
I remember long ago another starry night like this
    In the firelight Fernando
You were humming to yourself and softly strumming your guitar
I could hear the distant drums
And sounds of bugle calls were coming from afar

    They were closer now Fernando
Every hour every minute seemed to last eternally
    I was so afraid Fernando
We were young and full of life and none of us prepared to die
And I'm not ashamed to say
The roar of guns and cannons almost made me cry

There was something in the air that night
    The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
    For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
    There's no regret
If I had to do the same again
    I would, my friend, Fernando

Now we're old and grey Fernando
And since many years I haven't seen a rifle in your hand
Can you hear the drums Fernando?
Do you still recall the frightful night we crossed the Rio Grande?
I can see it in your eyes
How proud you were to fight for freedom in this land

There was something in the air that night
    The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
    For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
    There's no regret
If I had to do the same again
    I would, my friend, Fernando

Unsa pa nga freedom ang ato kinahanglan? We are already a democratic country, right? How much more freedom does we want?

Can they kill big time corrupt politicians. Many would surely support them.

I've recently read in the newspapers that militant groups decided to support the presidential commission in its probe on the spate of killings of activists and journalists. This would be more helpful rather than putting doubts with the commission when it was put up exactly to investigate the matter independently.

Indeed, these doubts will not contribute in any constructive way to the upcoming probe of extrajudicial killings. With the support of the militant groups coupled with the trust and confidence from the people that they can resolve the matter independently, we have to set aside our doubts first. After all, we wanted that justice be served.

    Melo body sets deadline

THE commission investigating the spate of political and media killings in the country is determined to finish its job before the elections next May, one of its five members said yesterday.
“The commission made a decision that our work would be finished if possible before December,” Butuan Bishop Juan de Dios Pueblos said.

“We have to end the cases before the elections. There would be more killings because of the elections.”
Pueblos said the commission would start its work on Thursday by asking Deputy Police Director Avelino Razon to give it a list of assassinated left-leaning activists and journalists.
“We will take first the case of two missing students of the University of the Philippines,” Pueblos said.

Retired Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan Jr., the former head of the country’s anti-insurgency campaign explained his involvement in the recent killings of the leftists activist. He said that this news are all propaganda by the NPA aiming to damage his reputation as an Officer.

He also explained that the tag name "the butcher" has given to him by his enemies because of his work of searching of the bandits and disarming them and not from the ordinary people.

Truth or not lets give em the benefit of the doubt, this bandits are causing harm in our society, its natural to think that they would do such act just to discredit a certain official who never stops hunting groups like them. after all I don't think he will at his place where he is now if he is not capabale of doing and serious about his job.

Let's just support the efforts of the Melo commission as it buckles down to its task. The government must focus on upgrading the peace and order situation in the country and solving heinous crimes.
