badly maintained power plants are all risky
even coal powered plants, diesel power plants.....

well if you think we will get annihilated....

we will die sooner when we have no electricity..... how will hospitals work without power..... how will medicines be produced without power

taiwan, japan, france they haven't experienced chernobyl type accidents....

with regards to undersea cables cebu is interconnected already with leyte and negros...... cebu-leyte-negros grid(thats why there was a blackout when earthquake struck leyte)

    risky nothing risked... nothing gained

expensive?? really?? solar power is more expensive, windpower is also expensive

when you compute cost show us per kilowatt hour.......

coal power cost 6 U.S. cents per kilowatt hour
hydroelectric cost 4 U.S. cents per kilowatt hour
geothermal cost 5 U.S. cents per kilowatt hour
solar power cost 20 U.S. cents per kilowatt hour[
windpower cost 15 U.S. cents per kilowatt hour
diesel power cost 9 U.S. cents per kilowatt hour
natural gas cost 8 U.S. cents per kilowatt hour

nuclear power cost 11 U.S. cents per kilowatt hour

    so which is costly............
    maintenance
don't you think you also have to maintain geothermal, hydroelectric, natural gas plants and etc.??

maintenance is handled quite well nowadays........

radiation well other nuclear countries have a safe record(except russia)

anyway everything will have maintenance cost..... nuclear power you need to replace fuel rods every 5-10 years.....

so in every 5 years you bring out the radioactive spent fuel...... every 5 years..... i can live with that....
Materials costs include replacement parts, computer parts, expendable office and other supplies.

NRC 1998 fee structure (PR 98-45, April 1, 199 is:

    3. $2,607,000 for high-enriched uranium fuel licensees
    4. $1,280,000 for low-enriched fuel fabrication licensees which manufacture fuel for nuclear power plants
    5. $14,100 for radiographers

why don't we let the french or japanese put up the plant

and we pay them...... or we don't trust also the french and the japanese

if we have no secure power supply

cebu is dead anyway..... it will be a ghost town

    we don't need processing plants

japan ships spent fuel rods to france which has the most advanced nuclear fuel reprocessing plants.....

we ship it there and get the fuel back

japan does it every 3 years and greenpeace always follow and stalk the boat from japan to france.... its even reported by cnn...

a 1,000 megawatt nuclear plant can cost upto 2 billion dollars to build.....

so those fees are not really that much..... it can also be waived as investor perks......

hiring an international contractor, which is a must anyway since we don't have an experienced nuclear operator locally, wud surely shoots up the cost even more.

is that an expert's assessment of the problem or just a personal opinion?

if electricity here in cebu will cost 10 pesos per kilowatt hour using expensive alternative energy

people will simply move to other places.... why bother and live here when all that you earn is spent on electric bills.....

right now with fuel prices rising 1/2 of the month's income is spent on fuel/transportation and electric power

what if you spend 80% of your month's income on fuel/tranportaion and electric power.....

what will be left in your wallet??
