    @zerk
Yep, ennis wrote "Just A Pilgrim" and "Preacher". Dang, I love it although I only read the last part. About the church thing, it really depends if the reader is open-minded I'm hiding my copy of "Just a Pilgrim" or else some religious fanatic might condemn me

Just A Pilgrim used to be an unsung comic for me. I have no idea about it. However, the cross-like emblem marked on the character's left eye and the title of the comic made me bought it. I just read it once and I quickly fell inlove with it.

Anyhoo, I got the last installment of Just A Pilgrim. It is like a mini-series for it only has five parts.

    Now, for the basic questions:

    Who is the Pilgrim?
The title character (never named, simply called Pilgrim) was a US Marine prior to the burn. During one mission, he and his comrades were left adrift at sea in a lifeboat, and forced to resort to cannibalism to survive, with Pilgrim being the only survivor by the time help arrived. He was exonerated, but he had developed a taste for human flesh, and continued the practice after he escaped until he was caught. During his imprisonment, he was routinely visited by a priest, and eventually accepted God. When the burn happened, he was freed, though he was the only survivor in sight.

What is Just A Pilgrim Part 5: Pilgrim's Progress?
I read Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan. This comic however is the twisted version of Bunyan's story. Uhm, more twisted, more gory, and unforgiving. The series begins some years later, when Pilgrim encounters the group of refugees and offers to show them the way. He helps defend them from a group of pirates who attack them during their trek. The Pirates are led by a man with two eye-patches, two wooden arms, and two peg legs (this grotesque character is typical in Ennis' writings). Eventually, Pilgrim leads them in a climactic battle, which annihilates both the refugees and the pirates, and leaves Pilgrim the only survivor.

The story was narrated by a kid, Billy Shepherd through a diary entry.

Anyhoo, I'd like to share a diary entry of a kid from this comic. I don't like to edit his actual spelling for it will lessen the gist of his entry. It made me wept and thought of something philosophical.

*From the diary of Billy Shepherd, age ten and a half

I am just a kid but I know this is the last thing I will EVER RITE.

They are coming for us now. I can heer them from my hiding plase deep down in the ded ship-- their WAR CRIES and their gunboats SCREAMING overhead, and their BULLETS bouncing off the hull.

Last nite the Pilgrim told us to trust our selves to GOD- to make EVERY BULLET COUNT- and if ALL ELSE FAILS and just the LAST MAN is left, to fall back to the napalm tanker- and blow us all to GLORY.

We know what the BUCKERS do to folks. and we know that they are so MANY and we are so FEW, and it seems like there is only ONE way this can END. and so today we will decide this once and for all. Today we make our STAND. Today we fite THE BATTLE OF THE TITANIC.

It can't be long now till the end, so I will finish riting now and go and give my DIARY to the PILGRIM.

I had some kwestions for him about the BIBLE he loaned me.

There were lots of STRANGE and WEERD things in it that I dident understand, but I found ONE bit of BOOK OF REVELATION that I have copyed out here-

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away:

So I wonder if THIS is the new earth, because a lot of other stuff has hapend like it says in the book. But if it IS the new earth, then WERE is the NEW HEAVEN?

Will we EVER get there? Or was there ever REALLY a heaven, the first one OR the new one?

Even tho I am a bit SCARED of what the ANSWER mite be, I am sure the PILGRIM cood EXPLAIN it all to me.

I am just SAD I will never get the chance to ask him.

    Billy Shepherd

Jeph Loeb and Rob Liefield will be doing the 5 part, weekly comic run.

    mga bai,

read [red]The Pro[/red], based on preloader's recomendation. I hunted out what the fuss was all about. damn what a funny read, here's decription from amazon:

    Book Description
She curses, she smokes, she breast-feeds and she blows away the competition. Just when you think Garth Ennis has gone too far, just when you thought it was safe to walk the streets, just when you thought no one would go near the idea of the world's first superhero prostitute...here comes The Pro! Reintroducing the outrageous story of The Pro in a deluxe oversized hardcover edition, plus an all-new, eight-page story by Garth Ennis, Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti! In "The Pro Meets The Ho," our plucky heroine comes up against a new and fearsome challenge: a super-powered "soiled dove" whose powers of perversion exceed the Pro's own! Find out who triumphs in this tussle of the tarts, as The Pro's creative team returns to the sticky-floored success that made them otherwise unemployable! You'll never go to the zoo again!

written by [red]garth ennis[/red] of the preacher. drawn by amanda conner.

there's a lot of jla parody comics out there, but this is funny as hell.

*warning - very adult themed humor, xxx-rated humor nothing too graphic though.

    OT:

You don't read Chuck Norris comics. Chuck Norris performs a roundhouse kick to your face and punches you in the face. And you enjoy it.
