i rest my case! "pacman" should be ur national hero!
@franklin: si pacman ra diay imohang nailhan nga pwede natong ikapanghambog? here's a portion of what my friend wrote for their school editorial..
"Precious Lara Quigaman, Miss International 2005; Dr. Jossette Talamera-Biyo, 2002 Intel Excellence in Teaching Award winner; Manny Pacqiuao, World Boxing Champion; Jed Madela and Rizza Navales, 2005 World Champions of the Performing Arts in Hollywood; Patricia Evangelista, 2004 Best Public Speaker in London and Leah Salonga-Chien, International Star.
Those are just a few and the list goes on and on, making your heart swell with pride."
daghan pa na. but i told him nga kuhaan kay basin taas na kaayo for an editorial. if i knew pa lamang nga someone out there might need to see the list, i would've told him not to change anything. peace.
Although he has done the country proud, by no stretch should "Pacman" be branded a "National Hero." "Pambansang Kamao" is fine, but not "National Hero."
Although he is being tagged a world champion by many of our countrymen, his victory against that Mexican heartthrob, Morales, was not a title bout at all. No World Title Belt was ever wagered in that event. No wrold championship title was ever won by Pacquiao by that sensational victory.
But even so, Pacman has proven to the world that the Philippines can make it to the top of the list other than the "Poorest Countries List" or the "Most Corrupt Government List." While, admittedly, making it to the top of a sports list cannot be considered a veritable source of national pride, it has for very human reasons been a great inspiration for many of our folks.

Btaw naa ni cla good achievements unya made our country proud but if you compare them with pacman, layo ra kaayo ni sila. If mu ad2 ka sa us, i doubt if naay nakaila aning mga pips gawas sa mga pinoy. Pero si pacman even mga holly wood actors, most sports writers, michael jordan, mike tyson, muhammad ali(considered by many nga the greatest champ of all time) salute pacman samot na ang mga mexicano.

I think all the data you have posted are overhyped. see flash elorde's record http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=12678
Most of elorde's wins were for the opbf title not the wbc. He was beaten twice by that time's current wbc title holder carlos ortiz and most of his wins were held here in the philippines and most by decision. Villaflor held the wba belt pero but wbc is considered superior to it.
Bowler Arianne Cerdena
- winner of Olympic gold medal in the 1988 Seoul Olympics. sure ka naka gold nata sa olympics?? mura silver og bronze ra ta kutob. sa asian games siguro.
Daku nig na achieve ang imong gi pang post pero i doubt if true ni tanan. pero bisan sa ila mga achievements, dili gihapon sila maka labaw ni pacman kay wala pay asian nga naka main event sa pay per view sa us. Unya what is extra ordinary with pacman is that he beat legends. Legends dili basta basta nga fighters. I dont think maka lupig ni si elorde ni barrera og morales nga surely future hall of famers and the greatest featherweights of all time. If you compare the quality of their opposition, layo ra kaayo sa quality sa nakontra ni pacman. Elorde is a good boxer but pacman is a great boxer. Ang fame ni pacman is even greater kaysa tanang belt sa featherweight division. That's why no titles are needed sa fight nila morales og pacman because they dont need them, they are greater than the titles. If you look at barrera's record, he vacates his belts when he was a champ at superbantam and featherweight because he is considered the people's champ of the ring magazine which is greater than all belts combined.
Unya what is extra ordinary with pacman is that he beat legends.
imo lang nang pangagpas. si elorde and Pancho Villa nahipatik na gyud sa record nga international hall of famers.I dont think maka lupig ni si elorde ni barrera og morales nga surely future hall of famers and the greatest featherweights of all time.
If you compare the quality of their opposition, layo ra kaayo sa quality sa nakontra ni pacman. Elorde is a good boxer but pacman is a great boxer.
diin man ka ana nga opinyon? kataw-an ka ana sa boxing community.gibasehan ang Ang fame ni pacman is even greater kaysa tanang belt sa featherweight division. That's why no titles are needed sa fight nila morales og pacman because they dont need them, they are greater than the titles.
If you look at barrera's record, he vacates his belts when he was a champ at superbantam and featherweight because he is considered the people's champ of the ring magazine which is greater than all belts combined.
