as you may have observed, many of those who died in there were women - housewives. it is even a question if we should or should not wonder why a lot of people who wanted to participate at the game show were plain housewives. this is a social phenomenon that needs to be addressed; housewives leaving their traditional places, their homes, to try their luck in a game of chance. instead of husbands, the breadwinner of the family, looking for means to survive for the day after, now women too are doing what they can.

this is nothing new. but these deaths out of desperation are. we cannot simply point our finger at inadequate crowd control since the impetus of such mass of people to converge in the area was for a very slim chance just to win those big bucks. it should not be lifted from the social context where it happens.

it's just another of those "wake-up calls" i hope we actually heed it this time.

potterboy: whoever made that slogan needs to be bonked in the head. it does not send the right message. but then again, whoever made that headline wherein the Left blamed GMA for what happened (implying that they blame her directly) should be bonked in the head too.

"ULTRA STAMPEDE kasalanan ni Gloria"
