When distro hopping I realized some techniques vary like how to save the resolution. The easiest is with ubuntu but then again it eats alot of ram, when compared to xfce/lxde. The least ram hogger is LXDE.. suitable for pc's with 192mb of RAM but then again its usage is not newbie friendly.
Do you want to remove those ram hoggers? uninstall X and go command line... nothing beats command-only screen. LOL
