nag pledge na ang korea og $3M for this project. But the problem is.. this is only a pledge/promise.. and considering the present economic situation in Korea today, murag taod2 pa jud ni ma funded na project. "Pledge" is only a solemn promise or merely an agreement to do but not a responsibility for them or a priority either. Pero maayo unta matinuod nani para dali ra mo bisita sa BOHOL ^_^

Just some additional news.. So, this project is "on the process" i think?

    • ‘Cordova-Jetafe link profitable’
      Sunstar Cebu, June 4,2012

CORDOVA, Cebu Mayor Adelino Sitoy yesterday said the realization of the bridge between his town and Jetafe, Bohol will promote trade and services between these two provinces especially in delivering power to Bohol and water to Cebu.

Speaking before the 888 News Forum at Marco Polo, Sitoy said the ambitious Cordova-Jetafe Bridge is a brainchild of Bohol Rep. Erico Aumentado who was able to facilitate a $1-million grant from the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to make the feasibility study.

Once a feasibility study is completed, Sitoy said this will be forwarded to the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda), which will approve it under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) scheme.

Once approved under BOT, Sitoy said the project will be implemented.

The Cordova mayor said the bridge will pass Hilutungan island. There will be causeways all the way to Jetafe or viaduct joining islets of Cebu and Bohol, which have good beaches.

“Through this future bridge, we can bring at least 210,000 cubic meters of water from Inabanga, Bohol, thus partially solving the lack of potable water in Cebu,” Sitoy said.

      Electricity

On the other hand, Sitoy said Bohol, which sources electricity only from Leyte, can now connect power from Cebu.

“This is a three-in-one project because it can be used for transport, delivery of water and delivery of power,” Sitoy said.

Meanwhile, Sitoy said the roll-on-roll-off (Ro/Ro) port in Cordova has been opened and is now serving vessels bound for Jetafe with a distance of only 17 kms.

He said that when Cordova made a reclamation for the Ro/Ro port, the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) tried to block the project. But the Cebu Ports Authority (CPA) gave the Cordova Municipal Government the power to build a port.

Sitoy also announced that the 10-ha. reclamation project, which is adjacent to the Ro/Ro port and financed by the Cebu Provincial Government, will complement the port.

He said that 10-ha. land can host a warehouse and port facilities.

“The Philippine Coast Guard is also requesting for a space in the area for their office,” Sitoy said.

      Dream

On his proposed bridge that will connect Cordova and Cebu City, Sitoy said that it has always been his advocacy even before the construction of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, which connects the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu.

“Whether by a bridge or a tunnel, I believe that connecting Cordova and Cebu City can ease traffic between Cebu mainland and Mactan Island,” Sitoy said.

A bridge or tunnel from Cebu City to Cordova could also complement the future Cordova-Jetafe Bridge, he said.

    • Cebu-Bohol bridge idea gets support
      The Freeman, May 20, 2012

EBU, Philippines - While the Metro Cebu Development Coordinating Board (MCDCB) endorsed a third Cebu-Mactan bridge, some politicians and businessmen are pushing for a bridge from Cebu to Bohol province.

They are also supporting the proposal to have the third bridge that will connect Cebu City to the Municipality of Cordova, part of Mactan Island, “but we are looking forward for the bridge from Cebu to Bohol,” said Robert Lim Joseph, chairman emeritus of the National Association of Independent Travel Agencies, Inc. (NAITAS).

Joseph said that when it happens, it would be the best bridge and a long term project that tourists and investors want to see.

“No problem with the crime as long as they see that it is being solved,” he said. “We cannot stop crime but they want to see that there are solutions and there are ways of preventing, that’s the most important because crime is all over,” Joseph further said.

Third district Rep. Pablo John Garcia, who will run for governor next election, agreed that the bridge to Bohol would be a major boost in tourism. Garcia added that the proposed third Cebu-Mactan bridge is long overdue.

“Any improvement for business environment, more opportunities,” said Prudencio Gesta, the president of Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Gesta said that the existing two bridges have served volume of travelers but moving forward needs additional ones to improve the traffic.

“It may be a bridge or tunnel for as long as there’s another option to go to Mactan Island,” he added.

Lilu Aliño, owner of Lilu Advertising and Marketing Solutions, suggested that such project has to be well-planned or else it doesn’t work.

“It’s going to be more fun if we have more bridges and maybe we have more fun if we go directly using that bridge towards Bohol,” Aliño said.

Businessman and The Freeman columnist Valeriano “Bobit” Avila said that a tunnel from South Reclamation Project would be the right link to Cordova and thus traffic from the north will be lesser since travelers coming from the south will have their own way to go to the airport.

He said that this tunnel should link up with an exit to the Mactan Cebu International Airport and continue on after Olango Island and link up all the way to Bohol via a bridge similar to what SRP has.

The proposal still has to pass through the RDC who will recommend to the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) for funding. (FREEMAN)

    • DPWH endorses proposed Bohol-Cebu access bridge for Korean tech aid, funding
The Bohol Sunday Post, VOLUME XXVI No. 38, April 2012

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has endorsed the proposed Bohol-Cebu Multi-Access Friendship Bridge to the Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund (KEDCF). In his letter to Rep. Erico Aumentado (2 nd District, Bohol), Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson said he wrote to KEDCF Director of Co-Financing Team Jong-kyu Park to extend technical assistance to support the preparation of the feasibility and business case study for the project. Recognizing the complex nature of very long span bridges, Singson recommended that a public-private partnership (PPP) business case study be undertaken hand in hand with the feasibility study. He said this should be the initial step to ascertain viability given the magnitude of investment requirements, technical and design issues, and whether investments can be pursued utilizing a suitable PPP investment modality.

The Singson move was in answer to Aumentado’s request for endorsement of the project for possible technical assistance for its consideration in possible 2012-2016 country programming windows. As the solon sees it, the bridge will anchor in the northern Bohol town of Getafe, spanning the shallows and shoals between that and Cordova in Cebu – a distance of only around 17 kilometers. Singson said he deems the detailed design for the same to be complex and exhaustive as can be expected from modelling long span facilities for suitable cost-effective design and implementation approach. This early, the secretary said, the design may require “conservatively a three-year period and should be considered a next step to feasibility and business case studies should these prove viable.” To note, Singson’s predecessor Hermogenes Ebdane had endorsed the project to the National Economic Development Authority (Neda) and the Korea Export-Import Bank (Eximbank) as early as in 2009 to which the Seoul-based EDCF responded that it will consider extending technical assistance to support the preparation of the feasibility study. However, Aumentado wanted to start afresh considering the change in administration.
