The link provided also has explanations about SALVATION OUTSIDE the CHURCH .

These are the issues meant to those people who are not CHRISTIANS . Even the ATHEIST are covered with this . But one has to embrace and believe . But then , these are doctrines , still naa ang GINOO na maoy mag igo sa tanan .

    Can Outsiders Be Insiders?
ive read the two links, that's why it took a long time for me to reply, the second one was great, stating some dark quotes from notable figures.. like

"[The holy Roman Church] . . . firmly believes, professes and preaches that no one outside the Catholic Church, neither pagans, nor Jews, nor heretics, nor schismatics, can become partakers of eternal life . . . And no one can be saved, no matter how much he has given in alms, even if he sheds his blood for the name of Christ, unless he remains in the bosom and unity of the Catholic Church."
    Council of Florence (1431)

truly it showed us the evolution of this notion from worse to a far more subtle ideal, like:

"It is known to Us and to you that those who labor in invincible ignorance concerning our most holy religion and who, assiduously observing the natural law and its precepts which God has inscribed in the hearts of all, and being ready to obey God, live an honest and upright life can, through the working of the divine light and grace, attain eternal life."
    Pope Pius IX

which makes me wonder why it took so long for the Catholic church to realize this..

This would be another question . So did it answer your question regarding SALVATION OUTSIDE the CHURCH ?

For the question , using the word realized is something not appropriate since it suggested of " come to being " or " of age " . If you knew how many ecumenical coulcils happened within the RCC , you would know that along with it are also the "MATURITY" of the church. There will be changes but still in the confines of the strict compliance of the Sacred Scriptures and Sacred Tradition.

Just like the very essence of why this thread existed, ang pag accept sa suicide victim kay di pa man pod na siya dugay. But because of scientific research , na concluded siya na di na binuhatan na sa isa ka sane na tao mao ma excempt ang victim.

Then it speaks of the truth that Catholic faith like many other is fallible..

Then it speaks of the truth that Catholic faith like many other is fallible..

The doctrine of NO SALVATION OUTSIDE THE CHURCH has not been abolished nor negated by the Magisterium. To simplify the arguments:

    - Requires full membership to the visible Church of Christ, which is the Catholic Church is still in full effect and applicable to all.

    - Babies for example, baptized in schismatic sects CAN be saved, but it is required for them to search for the Truth of Christ in the Church.

    - Pagans who has not heard of the Church and the Gospel can be saved, as long as they have made the effort to search for the truth.

"""The non-Christian may not be blamed for his ignorance of Christ and his Church; salvation is open to him also, if he seeks God sincerely and if he follows the commands of his conscience, for through this means the Holy Ghost acts upon all men; this divine action is not confined within the limited boundaries of the visible Church."

    - Those who have heard, but rejected the Truth of Christ in the fullness of the Catholic Church will not be saved. Even baptized Catholics, who reject Church Teachings will not be saved.

    - Those who preach errors WITH FULL KNOWLEDGE (applicable to heretics and schismatics), although they have half-truths in them will not be saved.

***Protestant denominations and the Anglican Communion would presumably fall under the category of "heretics and schismatics." Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, Zoroastrians, etc would presumably be considered "Pagans."

***Errors may mean preaching contrary to the revealed Truth of Jesus Christ found in the Church.

this is not the case anymore at all

    God would condemn unbaptized infants to hell, simply because of the inheritance of original sin;

    - Pagans who has not heard of the Church and the Gospel can be saved, as long as they have made the effort to search for the truth.
no salvation for Jews or pagans living since the beginning of the Christian era and no salvation for any unbelievers, even those who never heard the Gospel preached.
    -St. Augustine

no nro. The current Pope, has affirmed the traditional position of the doctrine.

Required membership is still in full effect. Some "Catholic" theologians and even priests, like Fr Hans Kung and even nuns at the LCWR pervert the teachings of Vatican II, but Pope Benedict XVI has once and for all, reaffrmed the Church's position regarding this doctrine. Here's from a Protestant view point:

Read the link: (from a point of view of a Protestant)

    The Pope on Protestant “churches”

Affirmed in the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

"""Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation.... Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it. This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church (CCC, #846-7).

If some people cannot attain membership, some conditions have to be met in order to be saved as I have explained in the previous post.

Catholic Christianity has not rescinded any of her Teachings, but only reaffirms it.

ST Augustine, although a highly respected figure in Church but does not represent the Magisterium.

A teaching is said to be magisterial if the pope and all the bishops in communion with him is in agreement in line with Biblical teaching and Apostolic tradition.

Refute comes in many forms because its a matter of acceptance . Anything in this world are subject for refutes in a SUBJECTIVE manner . Nothing is absolute because we are not perfect.

Then it speaks of the truth that Catholic faith like many other is fallible..
If the fallibility you are talking about is being defined as making errors , it is wrong. The CHURCH is INFALLIBLE . Protected from creating errors. Just because there are changes and modifications does not at all constitute or equate to being an ERROR.

Anyway , 1 question and 1 answer in the confines of the teachings.

    Going back to the topic.
