The personality of the graduate, the environment where he/she works in, and many more. You can't blame it on this or that school because they require needless paperworks, has horrible curriculum, etc. There are SO MANY FACTORS involved here. One as I have previously stated is the environment of their work, as I have observed, those working in government hospitals seem to acquire a "mata-pobre" attitude which is really sad. And mind you, if there are products of our schools that are best forgotten, our nursing and medical schools have also produced GREAT graduates that should be recognized, acknowledged and emulated. So please, I beg of the people here, keep an open mind, and don't blame SOLELY the educational system, the hospitals, the government, the country, or what. If you want to blame someone solely, it should be the medical team! They're the ones responsible. But then also keep in mind that other factors are involved, a whole lot of factors are involved here.

I still believe in our educational system and the medical profession in our country, and a few years from now I will send my son back there in the Philippines to study medicine. A lot of people here abroad recognize the Filipino medical community. They respect us, and look up to us. It is very sad indeed that this incident might taint that good image of a Filipino doctor, or a Filipino nurse, PT/OT, medtech or what have you. You need only step foot in an American hospital with Filipino medical professionals to see the difference and I'm damn proud of it.

And yes, in the past 24 hours, my colleagues and I discussed this issue, and they still put faith in the Filipino medical profession. Some of my patients asked about this, but honestly, I don't care if 30 people ask me about this everyday. I'm used to patients asking questions, and whole lot of Filipino medical practitioners here are ready for any questions. But their questions were rather trivial, and good thing they never generalized because the patients themeselves have experienced the quality care our medical practitioners have provided. I've received emails from colleagues and we remain unfazed. We go to the hospital, face our patients, do our work, they thank us, and believe me, the feeling of being thanked and being able to help others offsets the frustration and anger that many of us have felt regarding this issue. THE FILIPINO MEDICAL COMMUNITY here soldiers on!

    Abante Pinoy/Pinay!!!
if you have just CLEARLY read my statements and understood it, you wouldn't have to write such a long post to make a point. did i say i was BLAMING the educational system in the Philippines? no i didn't.

the reason why i posted such comment is because i used to be a nursing student here in the US, and right before that, was a PT student at Cebu Doctors' University for about 2 years. now, it isn't necessary for me to say that but needless to say, i've got every right to compare the EDUCATIONAL system of the US from the Philippines. and no, i'm not belittling our educational system. actually, i'd rather have my education in the Philippines coz i know that i would get QUALITY education right off the bat. college professors in the US won't implement stricter rules, needless paperworks, and endless requirements compared to a Clinical Instructor in SWU, CDU, or UV-Nursing. when a nursing faculty does that, that to me is quality education. i hope you get my point.

note that i said "isn't it funny that some doctors and nurses in our country who were products of these colleges practice the OPPOSITE?" take note of the word SOME.... i didn't say ALL, but SOME. it's sad to say that with all these stresses put on nursing and medical students, SOME doctors and nurses act like they don't know the rules, engaging in such behaviors totally violating what they've learned in school.

i mean duh.... of course, why should we blame the SCHOOLS when it was an isolated incident? i suggest you re-read my post before you make such comment.

it's so sad whats happening in V. Sotto Hospital. if those in the video can't be serious and take responsibilty of their actions, they shouldn't have joined the medical profession. These kind of professions should be done with utmost care and dedication. Be humane.

The presscon at the VSMMC just started. In a few minutes, the results of the investigation will be released.

Anyway, IMO, the proper sanction should be the revoking of their licenses for a year or two, suspension from the Philippine Medical Association, expulsion of the resident physicians from the VSMMC. I've seen other doctors licenses being revoked for offenses lesser than this. They don't deserve a lesser punishment.
