^whoa, nice novel you wrote there...
gotta say you have a lot of good points. points that i strongly agree with. and as i stated above, your priorities are in on it too.
but when you say you create music for self-satisfaction, thats a broad range. whats self-satisfaction to you then? if you play music to please yourselves then why have gigs and make DIY cd's that you sell cheap to people? why not just jam with your band everyday to your hearts content? why should you feel the need to let other people hear your music?
here in lies the degradation process. and the sad state of the industry. the way i see it, the meaning of music has changed. before, goals and aspirations were different. there was a time when people rocked out for a reason. a real reason. back when people believed in something. Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins couldn't have said it better when he said:Originally Posted by shoeless_rebel

"Now songs are just a vehicle for personality" That hit the spot right there. when you try to make your songs and keep it for yourself, it changes everything. but i'm not specifying your band. i'm glad you sold those cd's and did those gigs, coz if you didn't then i don't know what the hell you're in it for. and billy corgan is no mainstream type of guy. in fact he hates the machine. they released 2 cds on the net and uploaded em all to a lot of servers way back 2000 when they were breaking up because virgin records wouldn't let em release it. and recently he got offered a lot of money(seven figures+) for "today" and "tonight, tonight" licenses, each! he flat out rejected it. heres a link:

so what i'm trying to say is, it's up to you wherever you wanna go. but in the end, music is meant to be shared and loved and i think it should reach as many people as it could. heck, music is the only thing in this world that is loved by all. even deaf and mute people love it (beethoven). about it being free, can't really decide on that. considering the time you spend and the effort exerted in writing it, i think it should at least be bought.
"i" don't feel the need to let other people hear my music... to be brutally honest we made the CD and we play because of factors that i can't control. and i'd rather not talk about it here.Originally Posted by r/brey
yes, music should be shared... it's so simple back then... people now dig a certain music coz it's cool if you say that u have this CD and you have that CD. i am a deep person coz i listen to this artist and i listen to that artist (without ever grasping the true meaning of what ur hearing. hearing but not listening and stuff like that...)

this is so true... and in my world the song is still a sacred thing. i guess thats one of the reason why i don't want to go mainstream coz i know in the mainstream world... the song is not a sacred thing anymore.
if am other than what i am, i guess your'e correct... and if you are other than what u are then i guess you'll agree with me. as i said there is no point in this arguement. like my anology... a fish just can't explain to the bird what it is to live underwater and a bird just can't explain to the fish what it's like to fly. i guess that is what we are... i'm not saying your wrong. i juz can't understand you... and you just can't understand me. because u have ur own opinion and i have mine. so lets leave it at that. no matter what we do we just can't convinced each other whats is wrong and what is right.
thanks for replying. i had a nice time chatting with you. pretty impressive points if i may say so...![]()
