I think PHP and MySQL. We are all heading to becoming online.

That's the point of online programming language.

There is no best language. Only pros and cons of each, and preference.

It depends on the skill.

If you want to do web programming , or related to the internet, you can combine or choose the following:
PHP, PERL, AJAX, MYQL, JSP, ASP, Java Applets.......etc etc

If you want to do Software Development you can choose the following:
C, C++, Java

If you want database, you can choose:
SQL Access, MySQL or Oracle

If you want Advance Software Development like real applications or games:
C, C++, C#, MFC (Microsoft Foundation Classes), Direct X Programming - dll,com, exe, ....etcetc

There are many programming languages you can use, it depends on your requirements and functionalities you need for your project. If you choose a programming language, make sure you got all the systems ready and they have capable of processing your tasks.

Do not limit yourself for a single book or in a school. There are many techniques you cant find at school or in a book. Explore more and download as many books as you can. Read more information things you haven't heard before.

- You don't seem to understand what 'Software Development' means. Don't you think it includes web development?
- You don't program SQL, MySQL, or Oracle... You administer them.
- AJAX is not a programming language, and so is Java Applet.

I know the differences. The difference between COMPILERs and INTERPRETERs.
And also the differences between TEXT FILES of web..... and BINARY FILES of a software .
Therefore......Web and Software are different.

PHP interpreter, IIS server, Apache server, MySQL server.... those are softwares capable of parsing to a webpage.

How can you create a website without those softwares??

That is why "Software Development" is more complex than web development.
