Ok, way consent... but i don't know, basin bias lang siguro ko kay i like the songs of the guys, though wala kaayo aning PBB nga song nila, pero the Hanggang Kailan song nila is nice and melodic too.. basin naa nasad ka lain hibawan nga song nga Rip-off nasad ni.... hahay.... Why don't we just rejoice nga tumpak ang ilang pagka copya nga ni match rapud sa lyrics and it flows well!!
Nah, apilon nasad ang Pinoy, Cueshe rip-off gihapon? Samot na ug bira nga taga Cebu pagyud.. unsa pay lain natong birahon ani? Pinoy-pulling down-Pinoy... Husto-na uy... mura sad ta ug pulitiko ani, birahanay kung kinsay na'as taas...

    You don't get it ...

I take pride of Cebuano acts that are making good music. I'm proud of Sheila and The Insects, Junior Kilat, and Urban Dub who puts their heart in their music.
As far as Tagalog bands, I love The Dawn, Yano, The Youth, Identity Crisis, etc.. These people makes their own music.. their own melody from their own ideas.

OnL on the other hand has been stealing songs everywhere. Listen to The Smiths' HEADMASTER'S RITUAL.... it would sound very familiar.

It is of no coincidence that "PINOY AKO" sounds very much like CHANDELIERS The fact that CLEM and MCOY constanly comes up with different alibis to hide the fact that they did copy the song, that's very annoying.

Lain-lain nalang ilang alibi... like, "We kept the drumbeat `cause it flowed easy, it sounds good... so why change it" - Yeah right, when a straight 4/4 beat can easily fit the song.
... then another alibi "We didn't write it, but we did the song because it seemed like a challenge" .. where's the challenge in covering a song and changing the lyrics??

Naa pay binogo nga alibi nga nagkatawa na lang ko nag basa "If you note it down, you'd see that the number of notes are different" .. HAHAHAHA, but they still kep the melody.

OnL are guilty of ripping off yet wala man gani nila gi credit ang CARE for the music.

ONIN - you give props to those who deserves it.. Plagiarism is something I frown upon, local or foreign. How can someone call themselved artists when half their work are taken from other people's works

Wa pa ko ka dungug aning kantaha 'Pinoy Ako' pero with regards to plagiarism......
The melody and the lyrics can be copyrighted but not the chord progression and rhythm.
So if the chord progression or rhythm is similar it could be due to coincidence but if the melody or lyrics is the same even if it is backed by a different rhythm it is most probably a rip off (unless they had consent from the author).
Sort of reminds me of the intro of "Laklak" and "Born to be Wild".

Artists have influences that make up their song writing style, that's why they are artist in a way because they make new music their own way but with the influence of their idols.... in which case, OandL made the song maybe because they had the influence of the CHANDELIERS or something. I think what your're refering to as "Copy-cats" and "Walang-magawang-bagong-kanta-Kung-Di-Magrevive" are those who should be cast from the music scene... Boyzone, and the likes...

It's not unusual for songs to sound like someone else's song.... In fact, they're to many to mention...As long as it only sounds familiar, there's nothing into it, kung pareha na tanan, aw nayawas na....

Simple, they kept the drumbeat because the 2/4 beat fits the song well than the 4/4. Artists have their own way of furnishing the songs... Let them do their own thing... why bother change it to 4/4 when it sounds well the way it is...

I agree, no challenge in changing the lyrics of a cover song, but then again, they're artists... What's worst than keeping the song's arrangement and lyrics to be played in a Pinoy environment, so... change the lyrics and try to fit it as nicely as it could be... and they did....

EZRA - You only give props to artists whom you like, and the way you define them... Artists, in general are people who create art(Music, shows, paintings...) as a self expression. It does not matter how they express it, as long as they do it the way they want it, I think we don't have to dwell on pulling and criticizing their ART...
You can be an Artist when you take a part of something and putting things together... how do you call Rap artists then when they take a sample of a chorus of a song and rap the hell their throats out... are they Plagiarists? Aren't those from other people's works

My point is my friend.... Rip-off is Rip-off, purely copy and play. When you change it to your preference and expression, that's art and why the hell should we pull them down, it's their freedom of expression...
Though i do admit it's kinda bad that O&L is getting a piece of the original song without permission, but at least they overhauled it according to the theme they wanna get into, in that case, a Pinoy song.

All I wanna get into is let's keep our hands off on pulling who's there... ila na nang diskarte how they make the song sound good. For me, their music is fine, for you, you hate them co'z they sound like others... let's keep it that way and stop pulling people off. Kita-kita ragud diri nya mamira pagyud tah!!

Do your own music and we'll listen to you..., we'll respect what you'll come up to...

    Get it

thats why I dont like orange and lemons, Im a big fan of the new wave scene in the 80's though I admit im also a metalhead, remember the Dawn, Jet Pangan is a very big Smith's fan, but he never copy their style, unlike orange n lemons, tingog, music, halos tanan Smiths na kaayo, first time ko kadungog nila abi nako Smiths,

message to ONL - its good to admire your idols but its not good to copy their style..........

huna huna a kung makadungog si Morrissey , kundi si Johnny Marr lang, di kaha mosorok ilang dugo sa kalagot.........

    ________

    My own music:

    www.soundclick.com/sprakataks Â*...

I wrote and co-wrote most of those songs.. music and lyrics ... none of them are rip-offs. Â*This was way back 2002, everything turned out POP-ish since our vocalist and bass player are pop-influenced. Â*I'm more into newwave and brit pop as well as my guitar player (bot of us wrote the songs except the "VANISHING TRIBE" which was written by my brother and re-arranged by us.

I'm gonna upload 2 songs maybe sa next week.. these are done by me and my guitar player, vocals and drums ako-a, guitar and bass sa akong kauban as well as backing-vocals.Â*

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, artists have influences and sounding like the bands they look up to are typical. Â*Sheila and The Insects sounded like the CHURCH and HOUSEMARTINS sa una nilang album, why?? because mao to ang ilang influences.... but did they copy the works of THE CHURCH and HOUSEMARTINS Â*NOPE.

COLDPLAY's CHRIS MARTIN was highly influenced by ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN .. that explains his vocal style, but do you hear him copying ECHO's works? ... Nirvana idolized Frank Black and the Pixies.. yet they never copied anything from the PIXIES....

Influences are influences ... styles can be copied... but works, well.. you need to pay the rights for that.

    --------

Copying a song and pass it as your own and you call yourselves artists... is that right?? Â*So you're saying that it's okay for OnL to rip other people's songs since it's not thoroughly copied anyways and they "ARTFULLY" replaced the lyrics Â*Where's the creativity in that?? Where's the creativity when even the intro itself, you can't even come up with something better yourself... where's the creativity when you can't even come up with your own melody with a simple chord progression?? where's the creativity when you even kept the original drumbeat??

    --------

I could never give any respect to those who copies songs... You'd never see me buy any OASIS CD's `cause they constantly rips off from the Beatles. Â*You'd never see me buy P.DIDDY CD's as well. Â* Like I said on the other thread (pertaining to revivals and rap artists)... how hard can it be to make a number 1 song out of a number 1 song??

All I'm saying is.. ug mo angkon lang sila (onL) Â*nga gi kopya nila and kanta and give the "CARE" credit for the music, okay ra unta. Â* Otherwise... that's just stealing. Â*Ang naka pait pa... PINOY AKO pa ang lyrics...yeah, PINOY AKO, we steal songs and pass it as our own.Â* PROUD TO BE PINOY.
