why is it that most of the bands in cebu is doing cover?

cover songs are performed because of financial considerations... most people that hire you demands for it... wa na ta mahimo labi na ug nindot ang bayad... but, we always put our originals in the repertoire...

good thing that sometimes we a chance 2 play mostly original like in kahayag cafe, yukbo concerts, music made in cebu events...

sad note is that, restobars with live bands seldom hire us... if they do, u must play covers...

cebu bands like urban dub, jr. kilat, dice and k9 etc. who are making it big in the national music scene are an inspiration for aspiring cebuano bands and song writers to perserve and keep writing and playing original material and not succumb to bar owners and event organizers who insist in making bands play "popular" covers. It's a struggle yes, but you will prevail if you believe in your music.

I wish that you could all visit San Francisco or LA for a change of scenes. It's the exact opposite of Cebu insofar as the live music scene. Cover bands are considered so uncool that you would be embarassed to tell anyone that your band played covers. Most clubs or bars are only interested in showcasing bands who play original material. You can't get a gig at a good club unless you play originals. The only thing that seems consistent with here is that the pay is too low for the amount of work you put in...

I have missed this topic...anyway, just want to share my thoughts. I have always supported bands that play original music. I totally agree, if you are in a band and you are playing somebody elses music, then I believe that you are not growing yourself artistically. maybe your reasons for being in a band is not for music's sake. okay ra man mo cover, but don't cover it to the point that you are imitating the singer's dance movement. covering is great up to a certain point, like maybe playing elvis songs or beatles songs in a hard core beat...gets?or sing hagibis songs in ska...you get the point...

but there are some bands that says they play original songs...pero paminawa...mura sila ug clone sa whoever na sikat na banda na madungog nimo sa radio...walay originality...walay identity..walay kausaban

i've been an active participant of the punk scene in cebu. i remembered the times when nobody wanted us because people didn't know what we played. when we had our first sra show, the owner of the place asked us what we played...we told him a bunch of crap just to be able to play in the venue.

kung dili mo patukaron sa ratsky or any commercial venue because you have original songs, then create a scene for yourself. find a venue...a vacant field, a garage, a lumber yard, any where...sooner or later somebody who likes your songs will follow you anywhere...(by the way, we've played on all those venues above). if no recording company will sign you...organize your own record label...if you don't have magazines who writes about you..write it yourself. that is the DIY spirit that SRA or the cebu punk movement has been successfull all these years.

lastly, don't worry if nobody likes your music now... heck, your bandmates might not even like the music your band place...(this is true to my case :P) just go on..sooner or later, you'll find like minded souls to share your music..

Most of the bands if you are talking about the whole music scene kay kasagaran sa mga banda sa cebu nag showbands arun makalarga sa gawas but there are few who rise from the tren and they are those brave artist which are few but are worth listening try to search foer these bands I can name some who are doing great nationwides!

Try searching for this worthy band which are worth listening...

Try to hangout at Handuraw/Kahayag or sa internet sa myspace or search in google about cebu bands you will discover a different world of cebu bands and another view. This were just suggestions... Peace Brother!!

...mostly jud magcover but the ultimate aim is to play their own songs if they already got the popularity... bands are seeking for popularity&exposure by playing covers...doing so is just their stepping stone towards their ultimate goal w/c is for the crowd to hear & love their selfmade xonatas.

All bands are playing covers...simply these were just a popularity interest investments
