Breakfast is important but skipping it doesn't cause death. I think that's a bit of an exaggeration... the human body is not that fragile. The brain runs on glucose and if you havent had anything to eat for 10-14 hours your body works doubly hard for it to break down stored charbs, fat and proteins for your brain to function. Studies have shown that breakfast eaters are able to consentrate more on tasks than non-breakfast eaters. Of course its hard to consentrate when your stomach is growling the whole morning. What is fact is that if you skip breakfast you're more likely to gain weight more than breakfast eaters. Because your body tries to compensate and you eat more during lunch and dinner. Try reading http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/pul...429/DSECTION=4 for risks for blood clots. So unless you have cancer, injury, surgery or have a family history of blood clots then you're at risk but then again there are so many things out there that contributes to clots and I haven't heard anything about skipping breakfast...Originally Posted by gwapopermi
I agree with most that its difficult to see the correlation between not eating breakfast with death...but I also think that eating breakfast is a good habit and it helps you become more healthy and happy.
In college, I was a non-breakfast eater. Coffee was enough. I remember being really sluggish and my mental abilities wouldnt kick in till around lunch. But about 3 years ago, I started eating breakfast. Real breakfast gyud with eggs, bacon, fruits and coffee/milk/juice. I lost weight because id be full till late in the day so id eat a smaller lunch and i stopped snacking. I also become more energetic and mentally agile during the day...if only id knew this back in college, perhaps i would have gotten higher grades in neuroanatomy!
My mom always says, the habits you have while your young will haunt you when your old and grey. I have alot of bad health habits, so Im happy I kicked one out. Usa usa lang.
Im sure there are alot of research on this, but Im a firm believer based on experience. Eat breakfast. Break the fast.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day folks...to a better health eat breakfast like a king, eat dinner like a prince and eat supper like a pauper...that's my simple advice for you to have a healthy body....
HERE are 10 reasons why you should have breakfast (from womenfitness.com):
Break the fast. What does “breakfast” mean? Your body responds to not eating for hours and hours by “slowing down.” By eating breakfast, you wake up your metabolism and get your engine humming, burning those calories you need to burn to lose weight.
Eat more, weigh less. Researchers have repeatedly shown that people who eat breakfast have a better chance of losing weight, and keeping it off.
Do better at work and school. Breakfast helps wake you up. Studies show that people who eat breakfast are more alert and do better on tests than people who skip breakfast.
Breakfast is your chance to eat the foods you may not eat the rest of the day. You can’t go wrong with a whole-grain cereal and fruits with nonfat milk — here is your fiber, folic acid and calcium in one easy-to-grab bowl.
Skipping breakfast makes you grouchy. Studies show that people who eat breakfast tend to be in better moods. Breakfast gets you started on the right track for the day.
Cancel the Danish or sugared doughnut. They cause a blood sugar dip a couple of hours later. You’ll be desperate for something to perk you up, and will be more likely to grab another high-sugar refined carb for a quick sugar rush.
Breakfast makes your machine run better. Get yourself on a schedule with a healthy breakfast, and you’re ready to take on the world.
Set a good example for your children. By skipping breakfast, your kids will think it’s not important. Be a good leader. Have a bite.
Don’t eat dessert for breakfast. If you think a glazed doughnut or a breakfast bar with 30 grams of sugar are breakfast items, then think again. Doughnuts are fried lumps of sugared dough, and many breakfast bars should be labeled “candy bars” instead.
Watch out the labels. “Nutritious,” doesn’t necessarily always mean healthy.
Kids’ cereals can have more sugar than candy. Protect your kids from getting hooked on these cereals; they’ll get used to all the sugar, and will want only pre-sweetened cereals.
