No one is above a moment of idiocy or temporary insanity. Ang Amerika man gani, ning butar man ni George W. Bush sa una. If that wasn't idiocy, I don't know what to call it.

Most pinoys are highly impressionable. Ning absent man gani ko sa una, makakita lang ni Juday ug Wowie sa Ayala. Dali ra ta ma impress. We look at our politicians, we see them with their bodyguards and their bulletproof SUVs, impress na dayon kaayo ta. Taas na dayon kaayo atong pagtan-aw nila. We think they're better than us. It wouldn't hurt us to feel a little bit of entitlement, to demand service from our politicians. Undangon na nato ning atong batasan nga dali ra kaayo ta ma impress oi. Makakita gani ta'g mga public figures, ma artista or ma politiko, mag karag2x dayon ta, kung puede pa lang siguro atong ludhan ning mga tawhana. Think of them less and think of yourself more. You deserve more, and really, these people are NOT that special.

US and Israel prepare to attack Iran
Seriously? Did he just write this in his article?

immersion in, or exposure to, American-style liberal democratic traditions
Why must every Filipino journalist blame every problem the Philippines has on America? Seriously, lay the problem on something else ... like the PHILIPPINES.

The only argument that I agree with in this article is that yes, convicts shouldn't be able to run in any political race ... but the rest of the article doesn't argue anything else ... it just bashes politicians and ironically ... the people ... the very same people he wants to educate but deem as idiots. Idiots my friend cannot be educated. It is funny how he blames the situation on America but yet fail to see the MANY, MANY successful states that model themselves after American democracy. It is funny that his solution to representative regional senators isn't an original idea ... but is EXACTLY what the US does.

^^ which successful countries are modeled on America? As far as I know, the country with the greatest number of copycats is Britain, and their Westminster model of governance has proven a success in nearly every country that has adopted them. Although I must say that the Philippines is NOT actually based on the American model, because the American model is Federal and has more in common with the British system than our own.

It's more accurate to say that our democracy should not even be considered a democracy, it is a sick frankenstein monster of American/Spanish/French influences mutated by Pinoy tendencies and addition. Take for instance the separate voting of President and Vice President, which aside from being one of the most idiotic ideas in the world, is actually a Philippine novelty that detracts from the American model.

The problem I think with us Pinoys is that we haven't enough creativity to come up with our own systems, so we copy from other countries. Unfortunately we aren't very good at copying other systems either because we can't resist the temptation to modify and add/delete our own ideas, most of which are stupid and do not work, take for example the 6-year single-term presidency = stupid. The confusing mixture of Civil and Common Law in our justice system = stupid. The overly bloated constitution that is so much longer than the original American document that it purportedly copies and saddled with unnecessary provisions = stupid. Frankly, though it is offensive for someone to say that we are an idiot people, we have yet to prove otherwise. Incorrect insults are best corrected with action that prove the contrary but unfortunately that may be beyond our capacity.

In any case I cannot name a single country that has succeeded on an American-style democracy (whatever that means) simply because there is no such thing as an American-style democracy. Their system is borrowed almost lock, stock and barrel from the British system. I can however name a LOT of countries successfully based on the British model: Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong (previously), Japan, Indonesia, India, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and... America.
