Legend of Korra is actually a sequel to the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The movie, which was an adaptation of that series, was supposedly the first of a planned trilogy. But that movie got negative reviews so it's not yet sure if the trilogy will push through. I suggest you watch the animated series, I'm sure you'd enjoy it.

Noone can say yet if it's nice or not, since this series is still in development and will air sometime next year.
