There are some who find big non-Cebuano businesses like S&R as threats to local businesses that happened to be in retailing.

Diin di i ka pag hunas.. 40% and 60% sharing is equal gi design na to protect our local investor and to set barriers with the foreign investor. 1987 constitution was after the turmoil and economic downfall sa Pilipinas because of the civil unrest. I think 40/60 is still appropriate nowadays since we have economic zone, foreign investor can invest 100%. You may go to Bureau of Investment for further.

Do you agree with the theory that the entry of Krispy Kreme in Cebu will destroy all the opportunities of local entrepreneurs who intend to open sell donuts using the same commercial model that KK and it's rivals Dunkin Donuts and Mr. Donut used?

Those local entrepreneurs could use a lot of help, and this is where protectionism can come in.

^^ agree bai..but donuts is not the only product we can sell bai. we have local brands lang shamrock, julie's, lolo tinongs..etc. if only we have laws that would help promote "Buy Local" culture, then di jud na sila maglisod. the problem is, wa man ta ana bai.. ang mga consumer adto man sa "branded" kay sosi ang dating..

In the event that Cebu revokes the business licenses of Shakey's, Pizza Hut, Yellow Cab and S&R and locks them out permanently, can you live on pizzas served only by Alberto's Pizza and Da Vinci Pizza or other Cebu-based pizza makers?

Laws written with protectionism or buy-local-only in mind can be made but that would deprive people of choice. What would the WTO think of Cebu?

The other flaw of protectionism is that local businesses may no longer care about improving the quality of their products and services. In fact, there are hardly any improvements being made in today's global competitive business environment.
