If you are not doing it, then there is no reason why you should get offended but we should be open minded enough ... Anyway, here's an article from Sun-star... This is probably where Istoryador got his idea or not...

    Carvajal: Nation of cheats
    By Orlando P. Carvajal

We may not realize it but cheating could be fast becoming a way of life of Filipinos. There has been both big-time and small-time cheating in the news lately and perhaps many more that never get into the headlines.

We haven’t heard the last of the millions of pesos Macoy cheated out of this country. Erap’s plunder case is still in the courts and, likewise, that of Gen. Carlos Garcia. There was the fertilizer fund and now the overseas Filipino Workers fund that are still to be accounted for. Very recently, Cebu came up with its own version of the fertilizer fund scam in Bogo, Carcar, Argao and Tuburan towns.

Of course, there is the “Garci” affair that probably we will never get to the bottom of. But never mind that because, anyway, we all know that politicians all cheat during elections. Most of them, for instance, except maybe for the nuisance candidates, spend more than the legally allowed one peso per registered voter. That is cheating in my book.

There’s payroll padding, not so much in business as in government offices. But many businesses cheat their customers through false claims in their advertisements. Others cheat their workers by not giving fair compensation, by not providing healthy and safe working conditions and by depriving them of benefits the latter are entitled to by law.

There’s usury in many places, in government, in business and, worst of all, in schools. Yes, Virginia, usury is cheating and teachers perpetrate this on their fellow teachers. Then we wonder why our students cheat during exams. Who get paid for leaking the questions but the teachers and/or examiners?

These do not usually get in the news but are regular occurrences. Workers in many offices cheat their employers of working hours by claiming more overtime than they actually worked. Purchasers in government and business pad the prices of the supplies they buy. Workers bring home company supplies like pens and papers, including the lowly toilet paper and they pad claims for reimbursement of expenses.

Taxi and jeepney drivers cut corners anyway they can. They run red lights, make right turns from the left lane and left turns from the right. Worst of all, they occupy the oncoming lane and force their way back into the proper lane.

They cut trips and make u-turns wherever they want when nobody is looking.

But most disappointing of all is the way drivers of late-model and gleaming new cars also do these cheating maneuvers.

The point is simply that too much cheating is going on for comfort. Somehow social actors (the many good people still in government, school, church, media, NGOs, etc.) have to somehow find ways to reverse the trend.

Otherwise we will become a nation of cheats if we are not yet that already.

I do not know about you, but Carvajal does have some good points...

Carvajal does have some good points yes but still we are not a nation of cheaters to say such a thing is tantamount to desperate.

to the author: if the RP is a nation of cheaters, what does that make you?

mga pinoy man ta tanan diri, diba? mga cheater diay ta, kung buot natong tu-ohon ning topica?

Ma article pa na , ma news reports pa na , ma iSTORYADOR pa na , ma unsa pa na .... still the cited EXAMPLES/ISSUES does not represent the NATION . It does not even count to its close to half of the percentage when we say a NATION . We may have our own cheatings , white lies , regular lies , etc but it does not make a NATION a CHEATER nor CHEATER of a NATION no matter how you reciprocate it .

yes, there are people specially in the government who cheats, maybe one of our neighbors, maybe some of our officemates but those are not THE NATION..

so you'll just lump those people specially at the lower rung of society who even at their situation still work and earn their living the honest way together with those who do otherwise? I'm not saying that they're THE NATION but I'm pretty sure there are a lot of Filipinos just like them..

istoryador, here you go again with your sweeping statements.. tsk tsk tsk..
    Well, here is my reply.

I agree. There might only be thousands of nursing examinees who benefitted the cheating. Too small for the entire 80 plus million Filipinos.

There may be few hundred involved in the baseball cheating.

And yes, it might only GMA, Garci and some alipures who is involve in cheating the results of the 2004 elections.

    So few.

But the question is, the reaction of Filipinos about these incident. We no longer feel revulsion of this acts anymore. It is as if its a NORMAL thing in Philippine society. Remember the comment, "Everybody cheats anyway, so whats the fuss is all about?" You see what I mean? Only few are involved but it seems majority agrees or do not totaly care. Remember the saying evil will triumph if good men will do nothing. What are we doing as a people. It seems we dont care about cheating anymore. All we care is money and power. People are reluctant to side with the truth anymore for fear of losing money or of losing power. We have become selfish as a people. We condone wrongdoing as long as it will promote our interest.

Those are only three examples of our cheating habit as a people. You can encounter cheaters in every day life. Taxi drivers, market vendors, students taking exams, government officials almost everywhere yet our reaction is that of passiveness and wala akong pakialam mentality. We may not be a nation of cheaters in the strictest sense of the word. But for sure we are a nation becoming supporters or condoners of cheating.

how about the honest people in the news? How about those taxi drivers who returned much amount of money? The security guards who also returned found money?

But for sure we are a nation becoming supporters or condoners of cheating.
This is your opinion but I dont Agree with it, since you may always look at the negative news I tend to look at the positive ones.
