The "11" Phenomena

It's just a coincidence, I suppose. In any given day, you have a 1/720 chance of seeing this so-called phenomena. However, since human beings are usually awake for only around 16 hrs each day, the probability goes up to 1/192. Nothing unusual, really (except for some memorable moments... hehehe). =)

I was also in US when the 911 happened! Get this, the State of New York is the 11th State of United States and I was in Rochester, NY - and the 11th County of New York State. Everytime, I glaced my watch... and not putting any attentions to it, I always see 9:11am and 9:11pm. This is getting weird. hehehehehe...

I hope nobody minds but I would like to inject some sensible science into this discussion. Before we get too carried away, let's be rational once in a while.

Could it be possible that this 11:11 phenomena is just a hyped-up mix of pure coincidence, pattern recognition, the human need to add meaning to random things and symbolism?

Pattern recognition involves identification of faces, objects, words, melodies, etc. The eyes and mind does more than just interpret forms, contours and colors.

Pattern recognition refers to the process of recognizing a set of stimuli arranged in a certain pattern that is characteristic of that set of stimuli. Pattern recognition is an innate ability of animals, that includes us.

Patterns are nice, these are pretty. Patterns denote structure and order; original aspects of civilization that we people lean towards to, being intelligent animals. We humans like patterns, we like making them, we like remembering them.

1111 is such a simple pattern that can be easily remembered and seen almost everywhere. I'm sure any number repeated in sequence in a particular fashion like 888, 333, 222 is sure to catch anyone's attention because... yes, humans are naturally partial to patterns. We like patterns, its an animal thing.

As much as we enjoy patterns is also as much as we enjoy making symbols. Symbols are relevant particularly as a mnemonic device. We have calendar dates, time figures, license numbers each number sequence represent a particular event or aspect of our daily life that we hold valuable and important.

The rest? Mere coincidence. Chance does happen, surely people know that everyday.

But then again, maybe these Spirit Guides or Midwayers are actually using our inclinations to patterns and symbols to in fact inform us of coming events or dangers. One never knows, we just have to be really vigilant!

Hmmmm....

I share dinds3's sentiments that yes there is something wrong in the world today and yes humanity is taken some serious wrong turns in the last few centuries but why do we need this 11:11 phenomena to tell us that?!

It's hot here in Cebu, hotter than I could ever remember and the factual news that an ice mass the size of California has melted in the Antartic has me worried about climate change--!

There are people, and children, living on the streets/alleys of Cebu living on spare change and eating leftovers scavenged from trashbins. Seeing such poverty makes me wonder what is the government doing with my taxes...and what can I do to help more?!

Do we really need a 11:11 to tell us that some things are just wrong?!

What I actually believe is that some genius in mathematics created this "phenomena" and applied a few superstitions and VOILA! 11:11 created! But to some other things, many people would believe otherwise. So, we cannot stop people from forming a series of superstitious beliefs. Although, there is no relations to it but I on the other hand... I'm just adding some "weird" ideas not to agree on it as real. There is one movie that also have a similar thought... the movie by Jim Carrey... 23. I have not seen the movie but considering the oddity of the numbers are interrelated. Anyone seen the movie?
